was pleasantly surprised when i looked up be thou my vision and found that it was indeed an ol irish tune..... wondering if there were other words before it became a hymn...... there is a christian harpist by the name of amy shreive (sp?) (i before e except after c???) that really does a great version of this song..... she has a wonderful voice and plays harp like she took lessons up there.......
I actually new that about "Be Thou My Vision" as I read it on the sheet music when I did it with my church choir

"They That Wait Upon The LORD, Shall Renew Their Strength, They Shall Mount Up With Wings As Eagels, They Shall Run, And Not Be Werry; They Shall Walk, And Not Faint." ISAIAH 40:31
Someone asked earlier what artist who I like or know that sings "Be Thou My Vision" in Irish Gaelic. Well, one artist is Moéyé (Mairîe) Brennan who is the sister of Enya. She does a wonderful job. The way she sings it makes the song so beautiful and haunting. This particular songs she sings is on her "Whispering to the Wild Water" CD, which came out a few years ago.

"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring; Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king..."
I have about four levels of favorite hymns. Level 1 is Amazing Grace as it stands alone at the top. Level 2 would include: Morning has Broken, I'll Fly Away, Lord of the Dance, and I'm sure I'm forgetting some more. Level 3 would include probably several hundred more that I really like as I hear them and level 4 are those that I don't care for at all. I can't think of a level 4 hymn right now so obviously it is a pretty small grouping.
