I would want to talk to my first Cheever ancestor (mother's mother's side) that decided to leave England for the New World. just to find out if he thought things had turned out better here than they would have "across the pond." smile.gif

bring me to thee-
out of the world's bluster and bite.
i'll hold my children
in a place soft and light,
and welcome the wanderer
that knocks at my door.

When i studied philosophy, my favorite teacher, who was suffring from a multiple sclerosis, commited suicide; which had really touched me...
Then i would like to talk with him, infact as you can guess, i would have a lot of questions for him...

But i also would like to talk with the first of my ancestor who is not from the french territory (as it is known now). A lot of people says that every one in France is from other countries, even if to find it, you have to go back to a very remote past... For my part, all i know about our family is not enough remote to find someone from an other country...

--------------------
Please forgive my mistakes, i've finallly decided to take part in forums, especially in "Fun N Games" to begin; but my english isn't very "sure"... Then, don't hesitate to rectify or ignore a post which is meaningless!

Thank you for your leniency...

HELLO, ANYBODY THERE????
Thought I would wake up this thread, it is really a good one.

I guess I would like to have converstion with my twin. He passed when
we were three and I remember very little. All I have is a picture of the
two of us and everyone else is passed over, so I am it. Late in life babies.

I've come to this thread, trying to think of someone.... But, my ancestors are the kind who wouldn't appreciated being bothered by something as silly as a seance.

Like telelmarketers intruding into heaven.

So, I think of people 'famous'. That as well is hard. Any 'hero' would be dimished by truth. *sigh*

Going to keep thinking. Perhaps I'd talk to the person who invented popcorn. *lol*

I would like to know from distant ancestors what the land was like they left. Where they lived, what they did, why they left.

Perhaps I'd ask my greatgrandmother why she didn't name her twin infants who died shortly after birth. And why she married a man so many years her senior and seemingly so completely devoid of humor.

I agree that seances are a bit silly. Also, people who have passed on are mostly strangers to me.
I wouldn't dream of phoning a (living) stranger by dialing a random telephone number. What would I discuss with a total stranger ?

Why then trouble the dead ? It all seems a bit awkward to me.

I would want to talk to my great-great-great grandfather Thomas Jordan. I've traced my family history back to him and then earlier than him with DNA studies..but I NEED to speak to him to get a history of the family during his life time, since it is unsure who his dad was and unsure when the family migrated, as well as many other lose ends during that period!!

I would love to talk to our Founding Fathers to see if our current US is what they pictured, and if not, what would they do to "fix" things? Also, I would like to talk to my ancestors that came to this country from Great Britain (England and Ireland) and France. Supposedly they all came for religious freedom, and I would love to know what their lives were like.

Seances aren't silly! Next you'll be telling me to ditch the tarot cards and pendulum.

Many times man lives and dies
Between his two eternities,
That of race and that of soul
And ancient Ireland knew it all.

and is carried about as a burden.
The many ghosts are always a part of them, inescapable."
Geddes MacGregor

Hope, fear, false-joy, and trouble,
Are these four winds which daily toss this bubble,
His breath’s a vapour, and his life’s a span;
Tis glorious misery to be born a man.
