I hope I got this correct it's been awhile since I've been to class. My friend Jonquele has a study group but my son has soccer. Aiden comes first.

Since you live in America try ACGMA. It is a society for the advancement of gaelic and has study groups forming all over America. I'll try to find their website for you.

Tha mu duillich thisn't written in gaelic but it would take too long.

Mar sin leat

Thòisich mi air Gàidhlig ionnsachadh deich bliadhna air ais.
Tha mi nam Ghàidhlig ionnsachadh os cionn deich bliadhna.

deich = ten
deug = -teen

Tha ceithir leabhraichean na Gàidhlig agam, ach chan urrainn dhomh càil sam bith lorg ann.
Tha ceithir leabhraichean na Gàidhlig agam, ach chan fhaigh mi lorg càil sam bith ann.

faigh a-mach = find out
lorg = find
faigh = get

those words aren't always easy to translate

Tha gu dòigheil, tapadh leat! biggrin.gif
I'm fine, thank you

BTW if you address me with sibh, you will have to use leibh, not leat.

And it's oidhche mhath, oidhche is feminine wink.gif

The online dictionaries I use are Stòr-dàta Briathrachais Gàidhlig, Briathrachan beag and Faclair nan Gnàthasan Cainnte.

As paper dictionaries I recommend the Teach Yourself Gaelic Dictionary if you can't spend much money. If you want to have the whole works, get The Essential English-Gaelic Dictionary by Angus Watson and The Gaelic-English Dictionary - Am Faclair Gaidhlig-Beurla by Colin Mark. Especially the Colin Mark is a treasure trove.

Hallo!

'S mise Lori.

Tha mi a' fuireach ann an Oklahoma.

Can I still join the class even though you've been going quite a while already? I'm trying to learn on my own and not doing very good at staying with it. I promise to read the entire thread and make notes if you all will let me join in...please? biggrin.gif

Tapadh leat.

@Heather: Tha pùtan ro-sheallaidh ann.
There's a preview button.

agam already contains mi (aig+mi), so you say Tha faclair ùr agam. Cheannaich mi e aig Borders an-diugh. or: Cheannaich mi aig Borders an-diugh e - I bought it at Borders today.

I don't know how you say it was the order of the week. Expressions like that are often quite different in another language.

Dè am faclair a cheannaich thu? Which dictionary did you buy?

@Lori: Fàilte ort! Welcome!

'S mise GunCleoc agus thòisich mi nam Ghàidhlig ionnsachadh timcheall dà bhliadhna air ais.
I'm GC and I started learning Gaelic about two year ago.

Chan eil clasaichean ann far a bheil mi a' fuireach.
Where I'm living there are no classes.

A bheil tidsear agad, a Lori? Do you have a teacher, Lori?

Please feel free to post any questions, I'll try to answer as best I can and not make too many mistakes. For questions I can't answer you can try http://www.noclockthing.de/foramnagaidhlig/
