Okay, did anyone else notice how Jesus was noticably present at the Grammy awards?!? I loved it! I have no idea who Kanye West is, but when he started singing his nominated song "Jesus Walks" I sure sat up to find out... this song is about life's negative side and how people need salvation through Jesus. Kanye won both best song and best album (rap) for this number - think of what a 'plug' that is for Christ!

Then the best pop performance for a group went to Los Lonely Boys, a trio whose sound is Hispanic/country/rock - now I had already gotten their album and love it because there is some FABulous guitar there. In the liner notes I'd been pleased to see them blatantly talk about their faith & Christ... but the song they performed on the show and won an award for is called "Heaven" and it actually is a prayer to God about waiting to get to heaven!! Awesome. I love these guys!

Best rock performance went to my beloved U2's song "Vertigo" which is brillant indeed for its perfection as a rock song you simply can't resist dancing to... it doesn't talk about God, but whoever buys the album 'How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb' because they like the single is going to be slapped upside the head with
Jesus. 'Yahweh' is about - you guessed it, Yahweh! So many of the other tunes talk about faith & salvation & God in our lives, the album is even talked about in the press as being U2's most explicitly Christian album yet. Now that's what I call 'being in the world but not of it'.

I am so painfully aware how decadent our world is, how morally decrepit it is becoming, and how as a society we are spiraling downhill at a dizzying rate. It almost depresses me to see how bad things have gotten, and as my talk of Jesus often falls on the deaf ears of people so naive as to think that whatever we each choose to believe is true just because we want it to be... but then I see others taking a stand for Christ out in the public arenas and I realize that there are a lot more Christians out there than I know about. It's encouraging!

Hey SB! Now that you mention all this, it was true what you say about the Grammys! I thought it was one of the best Grammy shows I have seen in a long time. Usually they are very vulgar and the music just unworthy of being there.

I have the U2 album, as you know, and I noticed too how evangelical it is and of course I was thrilled to death that they won for their song Vertigo.

I was not familar with the Los Lonely Boys until that night. Glad you informed me about them. I did like their song, Heaven, they played.

Pretty surprising results all in all for the Grammys, I would admit too.

I have to say, I see Jesus in all things, and it's the best in Music. i'm not a big fan of the "Grammys", but I did notice what you pointed out.

I too get the "deaf ear", and it's unfortunate, but, I also see that there are quite a few Christians out there! angel.gif

Stop watching the mega -bucks shows if you really want to find the way... those things all go to promoting that which you seem to dispise!

Think for yourselves and stop letting the 1% of this country that holds the monies tell you what is right and good... look into your soul/spirit and follow it and not commercial TV programs.

Music existed well before christianity and has helped raise the spirit of man since the begining. Music began as a form of worship, no matter your faith!

Shadows, I hear what you are saying. I have to admit that I haven't watched the Grammys in years because to me it was always Rap music, which I am not fond of. I only watched it this time because of U2! biggrin.gif

And I do think for myself and research things out for myself, always have. I am a very nosy creature, you know that! wink.gif biggrin.gif

laugh.gif laugh.gif When I first typed my above post, I had said Crap for Rap, but then I thought I might get into trouble for that one. I whole heartily agree that that is what it is though. Heck! It is not even music........in my not so humble opinion! biggrin.gif

Yeah, even though I have decided to follow the Christian path, I still like to read and learn from others as to why they chose the path they did as well as read about it further. Some Christians would disagree with me for doing such a thing and think I should read the Bible only! Well, while I feel that the Bible is truth for me, why can't I converse with others who think otherwise? I have read about all different religions before I even became a Christian and I still do! I find it fascinating what others believe and why and how can I converse with others if I don't know where they are coming from and who they are as people? So my nose is always out there! biggrin.gif

No, no Irishbecca! You did not step on my toes. We are just discussing here. Free country, free to think and free to speak! Good discussion is good for the mind, whether we agree or not, I say! smile.gif

I didn't watch the Grammys, but I did hear that Bill Miller, a Native American musician, received Best Native American album for Cedar Dreams, which features him playing his own compositions on the Native American flute. He's among the best on this instrument. He's also a believer in Jesus Christ!

I think the general populace and consequently the media have mistaken two totally separate phrases:

"Freedom of Religion" and "Freedom FROM Religion".

Much as a lot of people would have it otherwise, and interpret it that way for themselves, they are not the same, and the latter phrase is *not* Constitutionally protected. Nor should it be. Religion is a beautiful thing. It's an integral part of our society, whether people like to admit it or not. It's somewhere right after that statement where people with differing opinions part company. LOL
