The Gospel according to Matthew
Chapter 28 (NIV)

The Resurrection

1After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.
2There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.
5The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 7Then go quickly and tell his disciples: 'He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.' Now I have told you."
8So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9Suddenly Jesus met them. "Greetings," he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me."

The Guards' Report

11While the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened. 12When the chief priests had met with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money, 13telling them, "You are to say, 'His disciples came during the night and stole him away while we were asleep.' 14If this report gets to the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble." 15So the soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been widely circulated among the Jews to this very day.

The Great Commission

16Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

As I prepared this post an old song kept floating around in my mind that wouldn't go away, so I thought I'd share it with everyone:

Because He Lives

God sent His son, they called Him Jesus
He came to love, heal, and forgive.
He lived and died to buy my pardon,
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives.

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.
Because He lives, All fear is gone.
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living just because He lives.

How sweet to hold a newborn baby,
And feel the pride and joy he gives.
But greater still the calm assurance,
This child can face uncertain days because He lives.

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.
Because He lives, All fear is gone.
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living just because He lives.

And then one day I'll cross the river,
I'll fight life's final war with pain.
And then as death gives way to victory,
I'll see the lights of glory and I'll know He lives.

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.
Because He lives, All fear is gone!
Because I know He holds the future
And life is worth the living just because He lives!

~ William and Gloria Gaither ~

I like that song, MacE! There is truth in those words and much more truth in the scriptures. Thanks for posting this!

Very beautiful MacE. That song brings back such wonderful memories of my childhood in church.

QUOTE (Roisin-Teagan @ Mar 25 2004, 06:31 PM)
Jesus said,

My little post is nothing compared to the daily devotional "Our Daily Bread" by Roisin-Teagan (I've used a quote from her first post above). I greatly appreciate her posts every day.

Thought I'd force this thread back to the top of the list.

Jesus is the reason for the season! I know we use that a lot for Christmas, but with how things get commercialized, it is great to remember that He is truly risen and not let all the world's festivities alter our focus.

How great to worship a living Savior! Tanks for all the posts on this thread. Because He lives, we shall live also! Won't it be a great day to see Him face to face?

Have a blessed Resurrection Celebration!

Have a Blessed Easter, All!!! I like that song, too, MacE! My Mom listens to the Gaithers all the time, and it is one of her faves, too!! We used to have a lady that sang Gaither songs all the time in church when I was growing up....she doesn't sing in the choir any more, but she had the most wonderful soprano voice!!! You boright back memories for me!!

I also remember reading "the Daily Word" to my grandma when she was sick, and that was 20 years ago!! I didn't realize that devotional was still around!!!

Godspeed, all!! Marti

Happy Easter All!!!! He has Risen Indeed!!!! I have been listening to HR for awhile but only recently been getting into the forums. I'm so glad to see so many Christians around. Another way to followship with fellow believers. I have been enjoying Espeth's daily verses.

Lets all take time to remember the price Jesus paid for us all. I encourage everyone to watch "The Passion" and just remember, there's no good work we can do to erase our sin but to accept Jesus into our lives.
