I love the books, I'm currently reading "A Breath of Snow and Ashes." I watched Episode 1 a few days ago and I'm looking forward to seeing more. I like shows like this. I have my DVR set to record them as I work nights.

I was a little disapointed in the casting, they do not fit the charactors in the book , especially Jamie! I love the sound track and as soon as I can find it I am going to purchase it! I will continue to watch and see if it follows the book.

I've read all the books at least two times. It's an awesome series and now I have seen the first episode of the series on Starz. Here's hoping the series stays true to the spirit of the book.
Because of the great interest in Diana Gabaladon's book series Outlander due to the new Starz series, we have decided to move this thread to our main General Discussion for increased visibility.
Be sure to read our article on the Outlander Series here:
And for those that want a little preview of the series here is a video:
I have heard a lot of people lately are wanting to read this book series. So happy to hear how successful this book series is and how historically accurate Diane has kept in her writing weaving in the tales of Scotland.
She truly is one of the great writers of our time!
Yeah, I thought Jamie should be bigger and have redder hair. When I read the character of Dougal, I pictured someone more like Hagred from Harry Potter. A great big hairy fella. But, after watching the 2nd episode, so far, I'm pretty happy with it.

Besides the poor sound recording ( seems to be the norm for all movies and tv now ) it is still looking pretty good just not as impressive as the book.
I finally got in here!! I am so thrilled to be seeing my favorite books and characters come to life on screen. I subscribed to StARZ specifically to watch the Outlander series. So far I am very well pleased with how well it is being done.
I personally love the casting. Only person who did not fit my imaginary description in the books was Dougal. I pictured him looking more like Viggo Mortensen from Lord of the Rings. But then I can't have two men to drool over, eh? Jamie is not who I had pictured either but I do love the Jamie they casted. So I am pretty happy.
Shadows, like you, I have LOVE the music and cannot wait for the soundtrack. The music plays in my head all the time. I am very anxious to get a hold of the music to listen to it all the time.
And I am sure it is not going to be perfectly scripted to a T with the books as there will be creative liberties. But since Diana is consulting I think I can deal with it.
I only get bits and pieces from youtube and FB since I can't afford to get starz. But so far I've like what I have seen. I had my expectation too about what jamie and Dougal should have looked like but I realize that whaty they have is pretty close. At least they seem to have the right amount of tension between them and judging from this video I wouldn't want to be on the bad side of either of them.

Like you Rosemary I subscribed to Starz to see this, I got a deal @10for 12 months, I will then cancel it.
I have already stated above my feelings on the charactors and how close it seems to the book to me. I will keep watching though.
Robert, I was looking at youtube and one can find quite a bit on there regarding the Outlander series. Were you able to at least watch Episode 1 and 2 on youtube? I did love that scene where Dougal and Jamie were playing Shinty, especially when Jamie won!!
Shadows...but, but Outlander has already been renewed for Season 2. Will you not watch it then?
I have said before I have read the first five books in the series and still need to read the last three as I have all 8 in my possession. But I will always love the first book, Outlander, the most. When I started the second book, Dragonfly in Amber, I put it down but really wanted to throw the book across the room. Thankfully I picked it back up and read through it. My other favorite of the book series is Voyager. But Outlander will always be the book and 1st season I will love the most.
I am going back and rewatching all episodes. I also have the subtitles on so I can understand what they're saying! lol I just wish they would have subtitles on when they're speaking in Scots Gaelic.
