We've decided to put an interesting spin on our July CD contest! Yes, founders and members are still eligible to win - but we are going to allow 3 members to decide if they really want one of our monthly CD giveaways!

Heres the deal. The top 3 posters in July will win a CD and get to select which CD they want to receive. The person with the most posts gets to select first, and 2nd and then 3rd. Might I point out that the much sought after Barleyjuice's Six Yanks CD is up for grabs. Or perhaps you might like some dark eyed Karen Mal voices to drift you away. Hey, Danny Ray Cole's Irish fun is great jigs and reels! smile.gif So hard to choose.

Monitor the top July posters using this link:

http://www.celticradio.net/php/forums/index.php?act=Stats&CODE=july

Its on the top of every page! The only rules are no spamming type messages or 1 word or 1 sentence posts - I mean a few are ok, but we will review and see if you made #1 by a bunch of meaningless posts.

So, here are the Giveaways:

Barleyjuice's Six Yanks
http://www.barleyjuice.com/

Karen Mal's Dark Eyed Sailor CD:
http://www.karenmal.com/

Jaiya's Beltane: Firedance CD:
http://www.jaiya.ca/

Siochana's On Our Own Live at Bridie Molly's CD:

Danny Ray Cole's Irish Fun CD:

The Blair Band's Celtic Sessions CD:

You can always view a complete list of all of our current CD giveaways here: http://www.celticradio.net/php/current_contest.php

Winners to be announced on or after August 1, 2006! Let the Fun Begin!

To be eligible for the monthly CelticRadio.net contests you must post at least one message in the CelticRadio.net community forums during June. The forum is located at: http://www.celticradio.net/php/forums/

Or sign-up for a CelticRadio.net Founder's account to be automatically entered each month: http://www.celticradio.net/php/founder/index.php

The Celtic Radio Founder's club is an important part of our website. Without Founder sponsorship, we would not have these monthly contests because the proceeds from these accounts helps pay for the postage and packaging for all the contests we hold.

Awesome idea, Paul. That might just get me back into posting here. smile.gif

I've been listening to CR for the past two days while packing up for another move. It's the first time in over a year since I've listened, due to not having High Speed Internet.

I'm guessing that by meaningless/one word posts that you're not counting posts to some of the game forums..change a word/change the letter/ABC game/3 word story etc.

Those forums always seem to move the fastest and I just don't want any confusion when it comes down to the end. Will posts in those forums count either as stand alone entries, every 25 posts equals one, or not at all?

If you could clarify I think it would be good to know.

Yes, good point. I don't think I was very clear on this.

Posts in those threads will count. Anything that you normal post will be counted. What I was trying to avoid would be someone that posted 300 1 word messages! I am sure that is not going to happen with the group on here! smile.gif

Just a few more days left in this contest. Looks like it is a real horse race for the #1 slots with the top 3 posters all having a chance for that number one slot.

I think we are breaking a record for the amount of messages posted in one month!

Also, we have a record # of CDs in stock for contests. 97!!!!!! (just did a count).

We will be thinking up ways creative ways to give these CDs away while promoting the musicans who donated them. Any ideas will be appreciated, but look for our giveaways to accelerate through August and September to get this backlog of contest CDs down!

Ok, I am sadden to report that all of the top members will have to undergo random testing to see if they used steroids during the month of July!

biggrin.gif no no, everyone is fine.

We do have a slight issue which may or may not effect the results. It's possible that the last day of posts were not counted in the script we use, so we need to go back and manually count all posts for July....

tongue.gif Actually we will check out that script that is counting the posts and make sure it is functioning properly. My guess is it did not pick up the last day of posts (the 31st); so it maybe a few days before we get the actual results.

Now, don't anyone go filing any supreme court actions just yet, the hanging chads have all been accounted for!

We will get this right because we would like to have this monthly count as a regular feature on CR.

Posted by: Macfive 01-Aug-2006, 04:32 AM
Wow, its before 6:30 AM and I figured this out! Man, something is in this coffee this morning!!!

We figured out the problem and the counting of the posts is now working properly, grabbing the last days posts (July 31st).

Like I said, we are going to move this to a regular monthly feature. So, shall we have a CD contest for this or what?

Posted by: marti64 01-Aug-2006, 07:49 PM
It is a good idea, and I will keep posting, but more people need to get into the "race" and not make it a 3 person show!

Or we could tie those three up and stash them in a closet angel_not.gif .

i do not think it is a good idea... to award a prize to those who post the most. i believe there are a lot of loyal listeners out there that do not have the opportunity nor time to post to every little game in the community. when i view my "view new post" link it is always a stream of the same names in almost every thread out there...i would like to see quality and not quantity of posts and i dont believe that will happen awarding prizes to who can post the most.

just my humble opinion. take it or leave. note.gif

I understand where you're coming from, Dundee. Perhaps we could limit the number of prizes a person could win to add more variety. I was a winner this month, so it would not upset me if I was not eligible for August.

I don't think you meant to come across the way you seemed to. I posted more this month than I ever have before. If you would want to select a winner based on quality posts, what would be the criteria and who would judge? I am not closed at all to the idea, but I also think that we played according to the rules this last month, whether or not the posts were quality.

Not trying to be contentious, Dundee. You are a great poster and I always enjoy reading your opinions, agree or disagree.

Have a great day!

Posted by: Macfive 03-Aug-2006, 03:48 AM
Some great comments here and yes I understand the concern with quality of posts versus quality and the fact that there are many a faithful listener out there that have never posted to this forum. Some great feedback dundee!

This is not something we want to do every month, and maybe it might be a good idea to have it as a seperate contest from our standard monthly contests.

We have about 100 CDs in our inventory of contests, so we need to start accelerating the # of CD giveaways. You can thank all of the new Founder Member signups over the past few days for our ability to continue these contests, as the costs of shipping and the packaging is funded by the sales of new Founder accounts.

We should announce the winners and new contests in a few days, probably by this Saturday - the 5th.

How about a compromise?

A winner for a specific contest can not eligible for the next, say, 90 days in the same contest, but would be eligible in the others.

If there is a concern of quality over quantity, then exclude the "Fun 'n Games" forum altogether or could it be a word count of all posts? I know that some posts are rather lengthy but fewer.

Additionally, how about a random selection of a poster with just one post as well as the most posts?

Do the prizes have to be just CD's?

With all this in mind, does Macfive have the time?

good quality post ya have here stevenpd beer_mug.gif thumbs_up.gif ......me thinks you have some good idea's.... i especially like the part of excluding the "fun and games" section. that is where most of the posts are going to: "the person above me" , "word association", "change the letter"....etc..... these are (although i am sure fun) simple one word or one sentence snippets... but yes they will get your post count up.

hey i think it is ok to give recognition to the highest poster... plaster their name on some of the pages..... but if its for a prize then that could be the only reason they are posting. again my humble opinion

oh and thank you steven for not ripping me for answering a question proposed by the man behind the creation of this site. beer_mug.gif note.gif

You're welcome, dundee. I had to think a little about why you would be concerned about any comment. It's all constructive, every little bit helps!

Posted by: haynes9 03-Aug-2006, 10:29 PM
The more we "spread the wealth" the better as far as I'm concerned. Like I have said, since I have won two CD's this month, it would not at all hurt my feelings if the powers that be put a time restriction until another item could be won. Not a problem at all.

Winning a prize or not, I'm still gonna post like there's no tomorrow biggrin.gif !

Have a great day, all!

Once we hear from CrazyKilt we can determine the other prize winners for this month.

We now are displaying the Top Monthly Members for each month. This is a new feature of our forum, certainly not the last! At the top and bottom of the forum there will be a link for each month showing who are the top posts for that month. It updates and changes automatically.

I think going forward though we will have a seperate contest for this. Poor CrazyKilt has not been on in days (he's probably taken a well deserved break), but unfortunately, we can not choose the other CD winners until he makes his selection! So, I think we need to have a seperate contest for the regular monthly CD contest and the TOP Post CD contest.
