Very excited tonight to hear from the Celtic Music group IONA! I have seen them in concert many times and they put on a wonderful show. Especially their circle dance is always a favorite with the kids.

I remember they even have a few Celtic Dancers that come along with the shows.

Looking forward to receiving their CD's and we will get them up on the broadcast ASAP! biggrin.gif

I've got Open Sky in my New Age collection on the recommendation of a Hastings employee. Granted not my A 100 favorite, but I certainly don't regret the purchase smile.gif Looking forward to hearing them here. Good music biggrin.gif

MacFive! I love the lead singer.............I forget her name, but she is awesome. Can you tell me where the band is from? are they from the UK somewhere? I look very forward to hearing their music on here. smile.gif

Hi Rose!

I'm not sure where the band is from (though I believe they are Irish), but I know that the singer's name is Joanna Hogg. I like Iona too and look forward to hearing more of their music! Thanks Mac!

Posted by: WizardofOwls 06-Aug-2004, 07:28 PM
Oops! That should have been Joanne Hogg!

And if you get a chance, the Christian CD that she released with Christian artist Margaret Becker and Clannad's Máire Brennan, called In Christ Alone, is excellent too IMHO!

Oh I love Joanne Hogg! Her vocals are perfect. I found this website on them. Looks like the band is from all over, even from the states!

OK guys, back up 20 and punt! Are we talking Iona, the Christian praise group, or Iona, the Celtic trad group? My money is on the latter, given this site......
If so, the lead singer is Barbara Ryan, and she is a super nice person. They are based outside of Washington, DC.

Posted by: CelticRose 12-Aug-2004, 05:09 PM
Oh oh! I don't know! I assumed it was the Christian praise group with Joanne Hoag! I wasn't aware there was another IONA. unsure.gif Thanks 3Ravens for educating me! I am very anxious to know now!

Oops! I wasn't aware that there was another band called Iona either! MacFive, can you clarify this one for us? Which Iona is it? (I fear 3Ravens is right, but the other Iona is good too! smile.gif)

Posted by: Aaediwen 13-Aug-2004, 03:56 AM
I'd always filed the CD I have as New Age Christian. Pretty certain the group is Irish.

My favorite track here has to be "Wave After Wave"

I'll be darned. I didn't know there was another Iona. The problem is that while Iona (The Christian Praise Group) is definitely Christian, they are also of the Celtic persuasion. So while they may not be "trad", I would say that either could be discussed here. (I have seen the likes of Wolfstone and Seven Nations on here, which are definitely celtic rock.) Man, that's confusing. Thanx for letting us know, though!

Thanks to Highland Radio I've had a chance to hear Iona several times and I love what I hear, i shall be ordering a CD soon.

Posted by: CelticRose 16-Sep-2004, 03:58 PM
Tassie! Which Iona are you hearing on Highlander Radio? I have yet to hear them.......boo hoo. Are you hearing the Celtic Christian praise band or another Iona group.............and from where? unsure.gif Let me know!

Posted by: 3Ravens 17-Sep-2004, 09:05 PM
The mystery is solved! The group in the playlist is IONA, the Celtic more-or-less trad group. They are based in northern Virginia, near DC. The lead singer is Barbara Ryan. They will be in Hampton Va this weekend, and I'm going to be helping with setup and working the gate..... wonder how much music I'll actually get to hear? wink.gif

Posted by: Tassiecelt 17-Sep-2004, 09:50 PM
I'm not sure now, apparently there are two. I assumed it was the Christian band.

Posted by: CelticRose 17-Sep-2004, 10:41 PM
Oh thank you, 3 Ravens! I actually heard Iona today and knew right away they were not the Christian Celtic praise group. But I absolutely loved their music! wow! I plan to get their CD as I loved what I heard so much.

wonderful for you 3 Ravens! What a great experience and you get to be with the wonderful band. Let us know all about the evening, ok? when does this all occur? Have fun and keep us posted!

Yeah, I saw their picture yesterday, and its definitly not the Christian group. Boo Hoo. However I have yet to hear anything from THIS Iona! Are they good?

Posted by: 3Ravens 05-Jan-2005, 08:55 PM
Request something of theirs and judge for yourself, Allen! I think they are fantastic, but I may be a *little* biased because they are friends of mine..... laugh.gif

Hi 3Ravens!

I'll have to do that! But not tonight, I've got to be hitting the hay shortly! I've got to get up at 5:00 in the morning, ya know! ::yuck

Which IONA, are you talking about? The Christian New Age group or the local to Washington D.C. group with Barbara Ryan. It sounds like you are talking about the local to Washington D.C. group, starring Barbara Ryan. I love both bands! IONA is best known at the Potomac Celtic Festival. Barbara Ryan, the lead singer is the one in charge of the festival. I once volunteered for the Potomac Celtic Festival and she was my boss! I plan on taking my boyfriend in June to the Potomac Celtic Festival. I'll have to let him see them too! Aye!

I see you're talking about the New Age group. I love Journey to the Mourn. There is also a local Mid Atlanitc group called Iona, whose leader is Barbara Ryan. I believe the starter of this thread was referring to the Mid Atlantic, local to Washington D.C. group. I can understand how people can get the two Iona groups confused. I love em both!

I've worked for them too. I helped volunteer at the Potomac Celtic Festival in June 1999. I will be going as a customer this June with my boyfriend. Aye!
