Ok, we all have our views on some topic or another. Something we believe in, something we loathe. Some of my favorites are corporate greed vs. the independant soul. Or perhaps the loss of the old wisdoms. You know how sometimes you'll get to thinking about something and your mind will wander on it. Let's hear what your favorite issues are, and your opinions on it.

This is not a thread to debate any issues someone posts about. This is a thread for individual rants and ravings. Expose the evil that vexes you, and praise the wonders that inspire you.

Some may ask why I think this fits in a forum devoted to creative works. To them I answer this: Everything like this is just as much a creative work as any story, song, or picture. It's still prose. And that is the context for this thread. Our rants and ravings, as writings. If this thread is used as I'm hoping it will be, than any one post here might make a good thread in the pilitics, religon, or some other forum.

Higher prices, for the same thing, under a different name. That's all they do any more! A prime example is Microsoft, the latest versions of their product don't really have any substance that their previous version didn't. Wll, not much anyway. Microsoft isn't the only one. They're just my pet scapegoat. Record labels and publishers like the idea of getting income from both ends if they can. Publishers like to take a cut of profits on sales, that's fine. But the mailings I recieve offering publication also want me, as an author, to pay them to print my work. Who's screwball idea is that? Get your cut from one side or the other, that's fair. but not both sides!

And what's more, how often do you hear of someone complaining about how their employer is treating them? It's everywhere you look, someone hates their job. More work with less people for the same pay per employee makes business sense, on paper. for someone else's pocket book. But it spells BURN-OUT PEOPLE!!!! A candle burning on both ends only burns half as long. Also, since that person is now doing two people's jobs... Give them some of what you're saving. Don't have to give it all to them, after all... you did that to save money. But give them some of it!

Corporate America is raping their suppliers, their workers, and their customers. And how often do you really get good service any more? The kind of people that know you by name? It happens on occasion, it really made me smile today when an employee of the local B&N said "Have fun in Ireland" as I left the store and passed her, outside on break. Kudos to her, and up goes my appreciation level for B&N. How often do you even see things like that happen?

This is part of why I like independant artists so much. Sure, they are a company, and in it to make money just the same as anyone else. But they are also *human*. To them, you're not just another customer. You are a person, a supporter, and perhaps a friend. Plus, someone doing something by themselves, knows more about what is going on, and can do the job *right*, not just trying to cut costs. Providing higher quality and a more unique style, when you know personally what went into the product, and wouldn't release something you wouldn't use yourself. Everyone can be proud of it too. when it's not just another serial number off the assembly line.

I totally agree, Aaed. Big time record labels, producers, publishers, editors, and yes Microsoft are all scam artists in their own way. I mean, why buy something like Windows XP when all that's out there anyways is so-called "pirated" material? I refuse to pay for software (especially anything Microsoft related) unless it's something I absolutely need.

Imo, independant is the only way to go. As soon as you start relying on someone else (especially a crooked outfit like the recording industry!) to help you get where you go, you lose your rights to create however you want to create. The key is to be as totally self-sufficient as you possibly can because (a) you're scarier that way and (cool.gif you're more versatile. By learning everything yourself, you're in control of your own destiny.

We live in such a dependant society. We depend on our government to make decisions for us, on big-businesses to determine their own net worth, on media institutions like Hollywood to entertain us, and we deny everything else. We've lost why we're American in the first place: liberty. And I think that's where the problem starts. That's why our nation is in the condition it's in. Why complain about taxes and who's in office when the problem all boils down to us and our oppression? Washington, Hollywood, Microsoft...they all look at us like sheep or cattle...we're their food, their dumb little worker bees who don't get a cut of the prize.

I think it's time we take back America from the corporate scum that abide in these places and in our own communities.

As a rebuttal to this, however, I feel that there are plenty of aspects of my life which I could easily complain about (and sometimes have) but all in all I consider myself very lucky.

I have a loving wife, a stable job, a great place to live, and wonderful friends locally, nationally, and internationally. We have so much in our lives, beyond the material things, that we take for granted.

All too often, it's too late to discover some of these blessings before they're gone, but here lately I've been appreciating things more and more as the days pass by.

i am constantly i awe of music.... western music is based on 13 tones.
13 idividiual lil tones. and look at what we have.... from o'carolan to barleyjuice.
traditional/celtic to pop....... classical to blues..... all with the same 13 lil tones....

i am amazed at how you can get tired of hearing a tune or song and then an individual can take that same tune.... and feed it through the processor of their own soul..... breath new life into it and give it entirely new and different light.....

its like music is its own universe to ponder...... it pleasures me

ahhhhh sorry didnt mean to get serious..... or wax philisophical oops.gif
