I am a bad reader...the last time I read a thick book with no pictures was Lord of the Rings, back in 1971.

Since then, little more that a magazine article and a chapter or two of the Bible can hold my interest.

All that has changed, and because of one book.
The fields of Bannockburn

This is a novel about the Christian church in Scotland from Patrick to the Declaration of Arbroath..to give a period.

While a lot has been added to make a story, and a very addictive story, the facts are all there. It's a history lesson that you love to take.

My only negative comment is in relation to a little bias in the book. eg, Queen Margaret is spoken of highly, whereas in fact I believe she was a wolf in sheeps clothing who all but destroyed the celtic church. She had nothing but contempt for gaelic and the independance of the celtic saints.

Aside from that, well worth a read. It resurrected my reading interest.

I've got to tell you about a book my nephew let me read. It's called:
Socrates Meets Jesus by Peter Kreeft
Socrates comes back to life in a divinity school, just to find Jesus. It's a very good read. It'll make you think about your faith.

"They That Wait Upon The LORD,
Shall Renew Their Strength,
They Shall Mount Up With Wings
As Eagels,
They Shall Run,
And Not Be Werry;
They Shall Walk,
And Not Faint." ISAIAH 40:31
