I picked this up in print news- an AP story

A decline in retail sales in November after two consecutive months of gains is an ominous warning sign for the holiday shopping season and for an economy that may or may not be in the early stages of a fragile recovery. Some would say that the gains were due mostly to price increases.

Expect more deep discounts to move the merchandise retailers have ordered for the season.

With unemployment continuing to rise I wonder how anyone ever expected a "better" sales season. The number of shoppers was up for the kick off of the christmas shopping but per capita sales was down for a total net loss. I also read in an AP business article that the service retracted during the same period. That means there is not much left of the economy at this point and obama has had a year to at least stabilize something.

Last year wiped out some retailers and this year could be a repeat only worse. The liquidators are not buying now and Circuit City is still trying liquidate it's stock on line nearly a year after they closed.

Slàinte,
