I notice in the avatars there is a section on Celtic Zodiac. What is that?

The celtic zodiac. It is based on trees for each of the 12 signs. Mine is the elder tree and my avatar shows it. Instead of the usual Aries leo etc or in chinese dog monkey etc in native american it is wolf deer hawk etc. The celts used names of trees for zodiac signs. Elder, birch, willow ash etc

OK, now I'm confused. According to this site I am a reed. But the avatars only have 12 trees, and no reed. sad.gif

If it's an avatar you're looking for, you could always just use the one off of that website... angel_not.gif

I guess I'm wondering why one place says 12 and another 13. Plus, I'm bummed to not be a tree. sad.gif

Well, there's also Vines and Ivy, so you're not the only one that's not a tree. wink.gif

Are you a Reed on both the 12 and the 13?

As a word of caution and not an attack on anyones beliefs, much of what is marketed as Celtic is quite often sold as fact but more often is a modern day creation.

So I guess there's no such thing as true Celtic Astrology? It's all just a figment of some guy's imagination? huh.gif

My guess is not in a historic sense based on historical and archaeological writings. Is there a modern 'Celtic' astrology? I guess so.

I'm not telling you to believe or not. That's up to you.

Speaking of amusing and entertaining I find that I am Hazel interesting.

This is simply my opinion nothing more nothing less,

Please keep in mind that there have been so many historians that have been mocked and told that they were wrong, their reputations ruined because of another mans jealousy, or because other men did not feel that they had the "Proper Knowledge" to speak on such matters. No one man knows what another goes through. Later it has been found that these so called scholars were WRONG and that the ones that they ruined were in fact correct.
Don't always believe what you read is a good addage, take a look at both sides and judge for yourself. The article that Keltic posted is simply in my opinion calling another man a fraud, the question you have to ask yourself is, HOW does this man know this. People love to put other people down to make themselves feel better or to make things fit what they want to see. How does this man KNOW what is factual and what isn't, was he living in pre-christian Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Isle of Man?
I can not and will not say he is wrong, I am simply saying Check it out completely BEFORE you make a decision on it. you might find that you will obtain a pleasant surprise.

I completely agree with you Angel. Good post!

The Celtic Zodiac will be something we add to member details. We have some material and pictures for each month. I am not sure how accurate it is, but I though it would be something fun to add to the site. I just have not finished it yet!

And it will be for fun!

... and that is exactly why I posted a different view.

Notice the lead in to the link - "Interesting Article" and not "Definitive Article"

Rider,

I do agree with your post.
