Feasgar math!!

Sorry CelticRose!! I was very tired when I wrote that so I didn't translate it and I didn't put it all in Gàidhlig!! The word in brackets are the ones I didn't know how to say in Gàidhlig or didn't know if they even exist! It should read:

It is too hot to sleep so I am here posting!

The second line was supposed to read I miss you also but, alas, I don't know how also translates into Gàidhlig! So I improvised!! To lazy to figure it out!!

The last one was a reply to Eiric and his loathing of Math!! I hate math myself. Can't seem to get after my daughter for her not-so-stellar performance in math this year! Ah well, the joys of parenting!!!

Tha i uabhasach teth ann an Nebraska an-duigh....a-rithist!!!
It is terribly hot in Nebraska today.....again!!! (So I know how you feel Ròs!)

Unfortunately, I do not know how to say 'I'm glad you are back' or 'are you all going to see Star Wars' in Gàidhlig!! But it is unlikely that I will unless it comes to the drive in theater. The indoor theater is just too expensive!!! How about you?

Oidhche mhath, a-huile duine!! Thanks for all the welcomes!! And I missed all of you terribly!! It's so good to be back!

Bithidh mise gu cinnteach - I will surely wink.gif

Tha gaol agam air Star Wars. - I love star was. Chunnaic mi a h- uile filmichean - I saw all the film. Tha mi a' smaoinneachadh gur e "The Empire strikes back" a tha as fhearr - I think that The Empire Strikes back is the best one.

Ach 's toigh leam na filmichean eile - but I like the other films. thumbs_up.gif

's bochd sin nach robh iad a ' tionndadh sgeulachdan bho Darkover na filmichean - It is a shame that they didn't turn stories from Darkover into films.

Bhiodh sin beachd, nach eil - That would be an idea, wouldn't it? laugh.gif laugh.gif cool.gif rolleyes.gif

Slainte! Gabhaidh mi dram Glean Fiadhaich Caoran a dh' aithghearr .... rolleyes.gif

I will take a dram Glenn Fiddich Caoran soon ... wink.gif

Ach tha mi a' smaoineachadh gum biodh e rud mar seo-
But i think it would be something like this-

Tha mi ag iarraidh 'fhaicinn
no
Tha mi airson 'fhaicinn

Dè do bheachd a Fhaileas?

Tha mi a' smaoineachadh gur e "Tha mi airson Star Wars III fhaicinn" no "Tha mi ag iarraidh Star Wars III fhaicinn" a th' ann. - I think that its like above.

Just remember that all statement of desire or intention require inversion and infinitive. Probably it's a bit much to explain here. But just that you others get an idea:

Feumaidh mi/ Tha mi ag iarraidh/ B' fhearr leam/ S' toigh leam/ Bu choir dhomh

I must/ I want/ i'd prefer/ I like/ I should

These phrases require inversion plus the infinitive.

The usual sentece structure is Verb subject object

Here it is Verb object infinitive. Therefore:

Tha mi airson film fhaicinn - I want film to see (which is the literal translation)

another expample:

Tha mi airson each a cheannaich - I want a horse to buy

Tha mi airson oran a ghabhail - I want a song to take (remember ye take songs, poems, readings in gaidhlig wink.gif ) note.gif

I think the confusion would be perfect if I said that of couse the usual rules of lenition apply and the a of the infinitive falls away if the following verb starts with a vowel ...

tha mi airson uisge beatha ol - I want whisky drink

tha mi airson biadh ithe - I want food eat pizza.gif

so better forget about it .... wink.gif laugh.gif

Madainn mhath biggrin.gif

Tapadh leat a Fhaileas.

Just for the sake of curiosity how would you say-
QUOTE
I want to see it.

I thought it would be-

Tha mi airson 'fhaicinn
Where 'it' is masculine & thus the possesive adjective 'a' drops out altogether

or

Tha mi airson a faicinn
Where 'it' is feminine.

Tha mi a' smaoineachadh gu bheil tu ceart, a Chu smile.gif I think that you are right, cu

Thuirt deagh charaid as na Hearadh (An Rapaire) - A good friend from Harris said

Bu math leam fhaicinn

agus thuirt Den (Camha) - and Den said

tha mi airson a fhaicinn

agus chan eil mise buileach cinnteach mu dheidhinn sin. - and I am not completely sure about this

' s docha gur e - Probably it is

"Tha mi airson a dh' fhaicinn" a th' ann (tha e nas fhasa a radh - it is easier to say)

Deanaibh taghadh , hehe - take your pick smile.gif

chan eil iad fada as - they are all not far from the right thing wink.gif
