Now I am the one who is confused.

What is this? Your own thoughts on everything under the sun? Something you found? What does this have to do with your post title of "Liberal?" I'm just trying to understand... the points run from both ends of the spectrum, and meet nowhere in the middle. Some interesting ideas for discussion though.

Still highly addicted to Runescape, thanks to the users of this same forum. It involves fantasy, but I love how everything must be made by hand, from weaving your own baskets, to smelting ore and making your own armour.

Thanks for the response. I've actually been to both Oban and Ben Nevis. I would really have to remove the sea side town clutter mentally to think about the port city, but I can see why you would mention that.

To be more clear about the book geography: it is 4,000 bc, and I'm actually planning on using the rising of the sea water over the centuries in my text. The virtual land I based it on is a high mountain peak, say a half mile inland, with twin mountains ridges reaching away from each other toward the shore to form an awkward triangle with the beach. By now, 6k years later, it would probably look more like two cliffs.

Because I wrote the entire book around this (240 single spaced pages with half inch margins so far), it would be important that the above criteria at least roughly work. As I mentioned, it's not integral that something exactly fit, but it would help me hone in on some of the historical stuff I'm trying to fit in, like pottery and weapons. There's so much fun stuff to play with. biggrin.gif

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and ideas...

It didn't dawn on me until tonight that I could ask for help in this forum... either someone has an idea or the topic goes dead.

Looking for a port area in either the east of the land or the north of Europe where mountains (peaks) meet the coast. They don't have to be dramatic peak, but an area that has contrast when viewed from say, the water.

I started a book based on virtual landscape from an online game, and have managed to fit it into something more closely resembling reality. Toying with making it historically based, and I'm presently researching that option.

Any ideas would be most gratefully appreciated.

I agree! What a FUN topic! my name, as has been said before, has never NOT been available on websites, so it's good. I had tried jestus for a while, but it was taken more often than not, so I just expanded it.

Jest Us was the name of my highly unsuccessful college band. I was real proud of the name until i realized people thought it was Justice, at which point I realized it had a pretty funny thing going on after all.

As I've aged, I find I now associate as much with the humor in my virtual nickname as I do the wish to have SuperMod powers of making people play nice or get booted. I also work in the domestic violence field, so the double meaning has flowed quite nicely with my life's path.

I am the daughter of a lifetime wildlife game hunter, and I have had my share of turtle soup and fricasee eel and all sorts of small game in stew...

but the most interesting recipe I have ever heard is one I cannot find online now that I'm looking for it, and perhaps the southeasterners can help me. It was for something I thought was called "nubia"-- a swamp rat, as told in a chance meeting with a couple of wonderful South Carolina folks while in California.

I can tell you that is sounded fascinating, roasted with a balsamic demi-glaze and tarragon. I even remember it should be served with fingerling potatoes. But seeing as the northeast is all out of that animal, I just put it on the table for those who have access to it. (on the table- ha!)

Holy crow. I promised myself I would give this game a week. I'm not even sure I made it that long. I agree with one really good poster who said, "I want to be reimbursed for my waste of time reading these forums." biggrin.gif

Mac, I appreciate all the effort you put into making this game. Really and truly. And as my human is a damn fine cheerleader but only a warrior when her red hair gets the best of her, I'm out. It's a beautiful game for competitive folks, but it's not my cup of tea. Got too much drama in my real life already, not looking to voluntarily take on more. I sent you a message in the Medieval Kingdom forums, which I now understand maybe you did not receive, so I'm posting here. Please feel free to distribute my "wealth" as you wish. I've got my kingdom on holiday- when you remove items (for a lottery, etc) please delete me.

Yeah, um... win big to those who love the thrill of the chase, even those who really really need to step back and remember they have real lives. I remember Mac posting that this should not take up too much time. Whoa, I think some of you may enjoy war, even virtual, a little too much, and that scares me.

I'm going to go back to the forums where people have things in common... like our shared Celtic interests and heritage. Best of luck to the rest of you.

QUOTE (subhuman @ 30-Aug-2008, 12:31 AM)
It can appear on older versions if people are foolish enough to trust Google to decide where they can and cannot websurf.

Click on "tools"
select "options"
click on the "security" tab
switch from "check by asking Google about each site I visit" to:
"Check by using a downloaded list of suspected sites"

OK, foolish is not the same as not knowing where to go to change the option, or even knowing it exists.

Thank you. Learned something new.

I had no idea this game could be so dramatic. While you two hash it out, let it be known that my concern with even playing this game comes from the first post... I'm not liking the fact that you can be attacked without provocation. But whatever- I will keep playing it or stop as I see situations like this continue to unfold.

OK Mac,

I had tried this even before you mentioned it-- for me anyway, it kept asking for an endless transcribing of nonsensical words. I'd enter one and another one would come up. They're easy enough to read... I don't know what gives. Hope this feedback helps-- if other people are having the same problem as me, it might mean it takes longer to clear celticradio's good name.

I'll come back tomorrow when it's fixed. Again, it stinks that you have to deal with this.

Oh OK. Hmm not sure where that leave me in interest- I love that you can collaborate, but I'm not sure I want the virtual stress of being attacked, even in fun LOL.

And would you believe that my father's favorite game to play with us growing up was Stratego ? We played it quite often too.

Thanks for the reply ranger, I think I'll stay small and wimpy. I actually had a hard time choosing my castle, for they all seemed too glorious. I tried to choose what looked like the smallest. LOL

Agreed.  This is a wonderful poem.  I recited it out loud for fun! It speaks beautifully!!

Of course, it deals with my one addiction.  Mmm, now I can't wait for the morning and another fantasy flow.

Thanks for the inspiration!!

There are many types of coffee but there is nothing in creation like Army Coffee.
It can be used as paint remover, weapons cleaner and lubricant, substitute for gasoline and Diesel. It can also be used as an antiseptic and in the rare instance raise the dead. One cup is good for 36 hours non stop combat. It is the marvel exlir of all times.

Camac.

PS> It's also good for removing warts.

So THAT explains my father-in-law's apparent inability to distinguish between good and bad coffee. A career military man with impeccable taste in food, and a solid hedonist--- but the coffee he drinks is nothing but below sub-par. And by that I mean as much the lack of interest in what brand he has as much as the amount of time it's been on the warmer. Ewwww. Thanks for the explaination! ROFL

Phew. I got the forgery info before I saw this post. Let me tell you though, browsing while this going on is difficult- You need to tell it on every page that it's not forgery.

Bleh. Hopefully you can fix it soon. Stinks though about the idiots that make the rest of our lives difficult.

I really enjoy chunky stuff, but can't really have much anymore because of my asthma. Still, I'm a New Englander, and it's my biggest sweet tooth craving.

All time fave is Ben & Jerry's Chunky Monkey, which is banana ice cream with chocolate chunks and Walnut pieces. I know, I know, I hear the "yuck" response all the time. But oh boy, if I could as much of it as I wanted, I'd probably weigh more!

Also on the top of the list is B&J's Coconut Almond Fudge, which I haven't seen lately and don't know if they make anymore.

My childhood favorite flavor (pre-commodity ice cream) was pistachio.

I'm glad to see other potty sayings because the phrase I am known for beyond any other (and also my life's motto) is

"Shite or get off the pot."

Learned it from my grandpa, who was also not a patient man or fond of dramatic deliberations. My husband says that he is going to put it on my gravestone, which I would be half-inclined to believe were we not being cremated.

Wow don't know how I missed a reply on this topic in all the time it's been out. bag.gif

I've mentioned this once before, but my favorite medieval based book is "The Once and Future King" by T H White, which the musical Camelot and Disney's "Sword and the Stone" were based on. It is also my favorite book of all times.

Movie? The Princess Bride is an all time fave of mine, if it qualifies as medieval. Other than that, I love the armor and scenery in Monty Python's Holy Grail if that qualifies.

Hey all, just found this today. Before i invest any of my time in this at all, given even what you said about minimal time, I have one question:

Because I'm still new to what I am reading, perhaps someone can simplify this for me: Is attacking/war an inherent part of this game? In other words, is defense/rivalry as integral to this game as clans?

It's great to see this discussion. Used to be a climber myself, mostly local and small (but great highs just the same) until a rope slipped and I went knee first into the side of the cliff.

Knee still works after they took a few shards out, but I avoid the sport now. I'm just happy when it doesn't make too much of a fuss after a massive hiking descent.

We were in the Grand Canyon last year, and saw an AMAZING guy (almost totally into the dark of evening) on a cliff along the walking path. I sat there, silent and awestruck until it was too dark to see. Gives me chills just thinking about how cool that must have been for him.
