As we have finally resuming developing Medieval Kingdom we are discovering some problems that need resolution.

There is a major issue right now with the amount of resources being allocated. Some folks have greater than 2 Billion in Gold. The system is just not able to handle these sorts of numbers.

While we do not want to reset the system and clear all accounts, armies, forums and stats - we do need to adjust the resources and prevent them from reaching huge amounts.

As a solution, we might perform a limited reset to Gold, Wood and Food resources. All accounts will be set to 0 for these resources.

I know this will make people that have accumulated alot of resources unhappy, but we can not continue to develop this game without this action.

I understand the need to reset the resources in order to avoid the entire game being reset but did you really have to take out all the buildings as well?

Posted by: CelticRadio 13-Oct-2009, 10:08 PM
Yes, we had to reset all buildings, armies and resources. Because of the calculations involved, it would not have cleared the scores and the problems with the game. We found this out when trying only to reset resources.

Our apologies on this, I know that people have worked over a year probably building armies and such, but the game would have been rendered useless as it was exceeding the values that are allowed.

There was really no fair way of doing this other than a reset. Now we can monitor the game stats and build events in place to keep certain values from running out of control!

Sure enough I peeked into the Kingom and we have been "zeroed out".....I checked out the "Most Powerful Kingdom" board to see how everyone else was fairing and found that the top four had scores, yet they have no Workers. Why do they have a score value? Is this still in the works? unsure.gif

To hell with it! It simply isn't worth starting over again! I'm sure that Dad will feel the same when he sees this. I'm out of here.

I had forgotten to mention...I believe at the beginning of this game we were given complimentary Workers.....3 of them I think....

Posted by: englishmix 14-Oct-2009, 07:52 AM
Zikes! The Government cannot be trusted - whether in reality or in gaming world. We just got nuked! This is freak' The Obama plan - wealth reallocation. Now we nearly all depend upon the Gov.

By the way, with only a pittance of resources and no workers (who once obtained have to be trained) and no construction or research options given, I fear many players may miss use what they have and find them in an impassible situation to play the game. One must get one worker assigned to each farms, gold and lumber camps with the small resources the almighty government has given you - or you will generate no resources to play.

Posted by: englishmix 14-Oct-2009, 11:10 AM
Actually, since we were all nuked, I think this all should have been under the existing thread:

With no workers and gold trickling in at 200 per hour, I will not be able to anything for a week. And then, maybe, a single mine.

I think we need to rowse the peasants and attack the king. This nuts.

Posted by: RedWeasel 14-Oct-2009, 01:57 PM
DOWN WITH THE KING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: englishmix 14-Oct-2009, 05:18 PM
Yeah, going down to this rate really serves to disassociate current players from the game.

Posted by: MacDonnchaidh 14-Oct-2009, 07:22 PM
Sweet! We've been waiting a long time for this reset. Thanks CelticRadio! I think I can speak for all of Clan Bruce when I say we are ready for the challenge of rebuilding from scratch, and dealing with this new leech you so aptly named "tax collector" smile.gif .

P.S. For those of you too blind to see, there are no research or construction projects to complete because they were not reset.

Something wrong is going on. Last night I have over 6000 units of wood. Now I sign on at Noon today, and I have only 4104 units of wood. And get this, my market requests have been fulfilled!

6,000 units of wood existing
+900
+400
+1,000
+1,000
+2,688
equals
11,988 units of wood

A THIEF HAS STOLEN AT LEAST 7,884 UNITS OF WOOD FROM ME!

15-Oct-2009 12:20pm
We have bought 900 Wood on the market.

15-Oct-2009 10:49am
We have bought 400 Wood on the market.

15-Oct-2009 10:47am
We have bought 1,000 Wood on the market.

15-Oct-2009 10:45am
We have bought 1,000 Wood on the market.

We have bought 2,688 Wood on the market.

It's looking like this adjustment is going to cause more problems than it will solve.
I guess if it's not broke, fix it until it is! dry.gif

Posted by: CelticSpecter 15-Oct-2009, 05:27 PM
There has to be a way to dispose a king.

Posted by: CelticRadio 15-Oct-2009, 06:33 PM
Thanks everyone for your understanding. We are going to have to go through this reset process in order to work on the game.

The Gold and Score amounts just made no sense since we had reached the limit that our system variables could hold. I think we will be doing a reset atleast once a year, but we are going to build into the game play certain random events that effect your gold, resources, army and building. This will have an effect of offseting those items.

Also, we might do a reset when we have an item available for auction so that everyone has a chance to win. Its really up in the air right now. We will be doing one reset in the next week, but will restore the database after a quick test. So keep building.

We are restarting the resource generator every hour now.

Posted by: CelticRadio 15-Oct-2009, 07:03 PM
We just adjusted everyones account to have 3 workers. We did the reset manually but are developing a script to do this in the future. The reset we did a few nights ago did not add any workers to peoples accounts.

I think once we get some of these changes made and more interesting game play we will have even more players enter the game.

Thank you StevenPD. I could not find that thread!

We are really excited to start working on this part of Celtic Radio. Once we get it to a point of acceptance, we will start advertising it on gaming sites and maybe pull in alot more people.

I have heard that this would be coming, I think it is great, New beginnings for us all.

I look forward to the new changes and how this game develops.

Thanks MK !

Uh... if you reset and no one has any gold then how will anyone be able to bid? The reason I had accumulated so much gold was to be able to buy things at auction. If one can't stockpile gold to use at auctions, then why bother?

There was no possible way to build an auction because the amounts had reached beyond the variable limits.

But there will be plenty of opportunity for an auction and gold for the auction. Its clearly our fault for letting this go on for so long, but this is the first opportunity we have had to work on this game.

If anyone saw the ranking ladders you would have seen that many people had the same gold and score amounts because the system was displaying the highest possible number it could.

Again our apologies, but we do not have the resources to totally redo the operating system of the web server and upgrade the entire site to a new platform just so this game will run. That would take about 2-3 weeks of a dedicated resource working 4-6 hours a day.

What's it stuck on?

We will be testing out a Game Reset script today. Expect that the game data will be cleared, but we will restore the data to after we confirm the reset script ran properly. We will compensate by allocated 3 hours of resource for any miss time.

This game is still considered to still be in the Beta stage and this has been stated all along. We have all known all along there would be a reset and that when the reset came it would be for the betterment of the game.
Now for the price I pay and the enjoyment I get from this game I think it is fair to say a set back now and again is worth the price.

This game has been added to our community for our enjoyment. CR Admin. has plenty on their hands with the radio portion of our community and I for one am thankful for the time they put in to both these areas.

Take your time and do it right and when you are done we will have more fun and more players making it even better.

I have said it before and I say it again, Thanks CR Admin. for all, all of you do and the happiness you bring in to all of our lives.

Posted by: CelticRadio 17-Oct-2009, 11:37 AM
Thank you Gandolf for your kind comments. We are not trying to get members upset with us, as stated before there was a major issue with a bug that resulted in a reset. Perhaps we did not post enough information that this game is in BETA development.

Evenso, most games of this nature are resetted periodically and all data is lost and people start over.

In our case, we just created a new extension to our administration functions to reset only the resources, buildings and armies. All other member, clan, country and forum data has been retained.

We just ran the resource script 3 times and will be sending everyone 100,000 in gold and 5 workers.

Yes, there will be future resets but we will be sure to give you plenty of notice unless we have a situation like what just happened.

I see I am FINALLY out of this! I have checked with numerous friends that play these games, and they ALL say that resets are known weeks in advance. This is looking piss poor management, not an issue with the game!

DOWN WITH THE KING!

Posted by: Dogshirt 19-Oct-2009, 06:36 PM
The kid is right, this was poor management from the start! NONE of the games I am familiar with do resets without at least 2 weeks notice. And MOST have a deadline posted MONTHS in advance! What did you think would happen when you started a game and left it open ended? My granddaughter could manage it better than this!

Posted by: Dogshirt 20-Oct-2009, 10:28 PM
Not a chance of that happening. But say, speaking of chances, perhaps now you and yours can have a slim chance of being something more than sword fodder! tongue.gif

Posted by: CelticRadio 22-Oct-2009, 05:08 AM
Again, I agree with you - we let the game sort of just sit there without any attention for the past year, but the reason was simple. We were working on other parts of our site which have now been completed.

We would have given 2 weeks or more notice if the reason for the reset was for gameplay. But it was not, again, I must mention that the programming language which this game was developed have certain upper limits for display variables and because of that amount being exceeded the ranking ladder was not reporting the correct values and other items were not working properly.

The game was released as Beta which I think by the end of the year we can come out of beta development as we are making good progress.

I am kinda repeating myself, perhaps old age is setting in!
