| Me likey protests... as long as they're done at a relevant time! For instance, for the week leading up to the "Free" elections that Tony Blair decided to suspend, I joined-in with a few of my Irish interests to do our part in the press, on the web, and on the streets. You know it's having the desired effect when people are stopping to ask questions, get literature, and ask what "Sinn Fein" and "Irish Northern Aid" are all about. Then, after the day came and passed... we STOPPED the street whining. We have continued the charge in the press and in DC. Yes, I like protests as long as they're targeted, organized and timely! I can't stand the protests that are a forum for people to sceam. The beauty of the Irish gathering was that we all gathered at the world-famous Philadelphia Old City Tavern for Guinness afterwards!  |

Politically, I like to think of myself as moderate-to-fairly liberal Democrat, even though I personally can't stand the Clintons (Hillary more so than Bill). I may not like other's opinions, but I respect them for having an opinion. |

I am a Republican with strong libertarian leanings. While some of the things that the Justice department and the AG are pushing (especially the "Patriot act") scare the hell out of me (I want to read whatever the hell I like, and the gov't has no need to know what it is), that clip was pure drivel. Guys like Thomas and Scalia are some of the only guys that we have to protect our freedoms. By the way - what would happen if the Republicans filibustered a Hispanic nominee???? Or put Thomas through that whole Anita Hill BS? The Dems & the media would be screaming about racism and affirmative action and diversity and all of tha t BS. Where is that screaming now? |

| Scalia protecting our freedoms????? Last Month Justice Scalia was in Fairbanks speaking to the Alaska Bar Association (Yeah, I'm afraid we're as infested with lawyers as anywhere else ) When questioned, Scalia proudly responded that "most American's have no concept as to how few rights they are actually afforded by the Constitution." So, this is the guy to whom you wish to trust your freedom? Sorry, but when a Supreme Court Justice downplays constitutional rights of individuals, I can't place much trust on him at all. Swanny |

| Aye, there are many "rights" that we have now that the constitution did not grant. The "right" to social security, medicare, welfare, and affirmative action. The right to sue for frivoulous things, the right to blame otheres for our own stupidity (e.g - the tobacco lawsuits, McDonald's lawsuits). We have the right to have rights granted to minority groups - whether they asked for it or not! We have the right to have judges legislate from the bench! We have the "right" to have the gov't tell us how to raise our children, what to teach them, what to feeed them, and what attitudes they can have. We now have many "rights" that are not mentioned in the constitution. Are we better off for it? |
