If we're gonna have to go green, I want one of these.

While it may be inherently wasteful to enjoy luxury cars, it can still be fun to look at -- and even drive -- them. And, if you are concerned about the environmental impact of such cars, you can breath a little easier. At least if your idea of luxury includes the Mercedes-Benz Gullwing. Mercedes-Benz recently confirmed that it will be producing an all-electric version of the SLS AMG Supercar.

The specs on this car are tantalizing to luxury lovers: 526 horsepower, 649 pound-feet of torque, 0 to 60 in four seconds. Gas 2.0 reports on how the new electric Gullwing will be powered:

"The motors will be fueled by a 400-volt liquid cooled, high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack delivering 40 Ah of current. The packs will run down the center of the chassis. They can be charged via an electrical outlet and also through regenerative braking.

Since an electric version of the car was considered during its design, no modifications will be needed to the car's lightweight aluminum frame. In fact, the electrical version is expected to perform on par with the petro-based SLS. Well, except it will be quieter than its V-8 sibling."

Hey oldraven! Believe or not my mom had the hardtop version of that thunderbird. I think hers was a 61. It was missing the dashboard (former moonshiners car) but the rest of the car was in great shape. I guess the former owners had stuck a 61 police cruiser engine in it to outrun the cops. The dashboard was missing because they had some mechiniusm that ejected the shine out of the trunk in case they had to get rid of evidence.

As for me I always wanted (and I'm surprised no one has mentioned them) the 60's batmobile, the back to the future deloren, and a stutz bearcat. Anything built by Tom Danials would be cool too.

I found my attorney sold his Jaguar XKE roadster as it was too costly to maintain. Imagine that. Times must be really rough!!! Wish I had known.

Is it a sign of doomsday when lawyers can't afford cars?

Is it safe in here? tongue.gif

This is my current ride. When the weather is nice.

In my wild and crazy youth, I changed cars like clothes. I'd get bored with one and move on. I've had a 67 Shelby Cobra, 69 Nova SS, Cuda, too much to list. There's a 69 Chevelle SS in the workshop out back with a 700 horse big block waiting to be dropped in.

This one is awesome handling, horsepower, engineering...really a fun car.

*sigh*

I love cars.
