I thank Tom the bar keep for the pint of Murphy's and light up a cigarette. It's good to be "Arms", I've had many good times here. Lot of strangers in here tonight, including a spectacular blonde. Maybe I'll get up the courage to introduce my self later on, but for now, I want to see if I can strike up a game of darts with someone.

This goofy looking, bearded guy looks frienly enough, maybe he's up for a game.

Hey. My name's Ursamajor. New in town?"

THe goofy looking guy didn't reply, just sipped his Guiness.

Aye, there are many "rights" that we have now that the constitution did not grant. The "right" to social security, medicare, welfare, and affirmative action. The right to sue for frivoulous things, the right to blame otheres for our own stupidity (e.g - the tobacco lawsuits, McDonald's lawsuits). We have the right to have rights granted to minority groups - whether they asked for it or not! We have the right to have judges legislate from the bench! We have the "right" to have the gov't tell us how to raise our children, what to teach them, what to feeed them, and what attitudes they can have.

We now have many "rights" that are not mentioned in the constitution. Are we better off for it?

QUOTE
While I am a proud libertarian I do subscribe to the republicans and democrates newsletters and this came in todays Democratic newsletter. Thought you'd all like to see their take on Bush and the new Supreme Court Justices.

I am a Republican with strong libertarian leanings. While some of the things that the Justice department and the AG are pushing (especially the "Patriot act") scare the hell out of me (I want to read whatever the hell I like, and the gov't has no need to know what it is), that clip was pure drivel. Guys like Thomas and Scalia are some of the only guys that we have to protect our freedoms.

By the way - what would happen if the Republicans filibustered a Hispanic nominee???? Or put Thomas through that whole Anita Hill BS? The Dems & the media would be screaming about racism and affirmative action and diversity and all of tha t BS. Where is that screaming now?

I'm not even going to start on the mess that GWB inhereted in this country from the former "President". He's instituted financial reforms and the economy is starting to come around. Things have been doing fairly well lately (do any of you pay attention to the markets?).

Relax, all. Greenspan, Donaldson, et al have things well in hand. cool.gif

Seriously, though, the 2nd Ammendment is pretty clear on this issue. Any argument that the framers couldn't forsee today's weapons as a reason for gun control is just B.S. The framers realized that there were many things that would happen that they could not forsee, and they wrote the Constitution - all parts of it, not just the 1st Ammemdment - with that in mind.

As I get older, the nanny state that we live in ticks me off more and more.

Expatriation, anyone?

Hi All! Thanks for the welcome.

My name is Fran Sheridan and I'm from Collegeville, PA. I used to be a good, upstanding citizen until I met Jim and Brett (who introduced me to this site).

I'm a simple type, who likes nothing better than sitting around with friends, having a beer and listening to the Hooligans.

Thanks again for the welcome. I feel at home already!

Fran
