I know you guys know more about cars than I do, so I need help...what is the difference between the Jeep Wrangler Sport and the Jeep Wrangler Sahara..
which model of the Wrangler do you guys like better? Has anyone had one of these and what do you like and dislike about them? Anyone have a hard top model? Can you take Hardtop off too?

I don't know much about Jeeps. A friend had one with a 4.0 six, it went like stink! Of the three friends that have had them, two were not happy with the reliability.

For sheer fun and excitement, try a Miata, they are indestructable, a blast to drive, practially maintaince free, and handle great. Used ones are fairly inexpensive, and the insurance is readonable. Redheads look good in them, too.

Who needs off road when you have curves? Of course you can take one off road, but it's usually not your choice. I love mine! Grover has 98,000 exciting, memorable miles behind him.

I don't think there a whole lot of difference between the two really, other than the name , I could be wrong though. Need too wait for some car buffs to come around and get a second thought. I know that the hard tops on the old jeep cherakee's used to come off.

I got you in the chat last night. smile.gif

Saharah is the Sport with nice wheels, cloth seats, different doors, and an upgraded stereo. smile.gif

My advise just forget about the jeep. My wife and I have had 2 a cherokee and a grand cherokee, they were horrible I was just talking to a client of mine about his and he had the same problem with the axle, and the tranny, and all time 4 wd. I also had a friend who worked in the rental car business and they couldnt hardly give them away after they were done with them, unlike other cars and trucks they sold. Mayby now that it is a german car (the irony we won wwII with jeeps and now that they lost the war they bought the company that helped do it). If you want an American vehicle to take off road get a International Scout II yeah the last year they sold them was 80 (mine is a 76) and the electric system sucks it is an awesome ride and you can take off the top, plus I ga-run-tee you will get at least 4 or 5 offfers a year to buy it from you. If you want something for the road get anything but a jeep. A Honda passport is good or a rodeo.

Birddog, you are comparing apples and oranges here. Yes, they are both Jeeps, but the YJ (Wrangler) is nothing at all like a Cherokee, not by a long shot. They are their own vehicle, and have proven themselves to be a tough machine.

I'm not going to tell you what to buy. No offense, but she wants a Jeep people. Why would someone looking for a Jeep want a Miata? Think about it. If she said she's looking at getting a new vehicle, then I'd say go buy a VW, but she didn't ask that.

I asked the shop foreman here, a Jeep YJ buff who has owned a Sport and Sahara, about the Big Foot. He said he's never heard of it, but imagines it's just a wheel n' tire package. Perhaps with a lift kit. Sounds good to me. smile.gif

Annabelle,

The Cherokee is like a Stationwagon version of a Jeep.

Cherokee's and Wranglers are nothing alike. Well, not the Grand Cherokee anyway. It's more Chrysler, in my opinion. The YJ has been the standard for decades, so I don't think you can go wrong there. The Cherokee is like a modern version of the Wagoneer, and so has a completely different platform.

Plus, what Richard said.

The regular jeeps were used during the war in WWI and I thought they were pretty tough to take everything they did back then. I thought they would be even better now...so Is getting a Jeep Sahara a reliable vechicle?
I don't want to buy a lemon.

Well, they're pretty much the same design concept, but there's not much of the old Military GP's in the modern YJ's. Still, they've been a solid vehicle for decades.

Well I'm not a fan of jeeps as i posted earlier but I would advise to go to www.epinions.com to find out the skinny on any product. Here is the specific page you might want http://www.epinions.com/auto_Make-Sport_Utility-Jeep It has reviews of people that have owned the vehicle. best of luck.

Hi Birddog, I did go into Eopinions and looked up the Wranglers. I also checked Consumer Reports and they have good ratings on their vehicles like OldRaven said...workhorses! So I feel pretty comfortable with them now...

Also it doesn't hurt to have the booklet on this thing so you can really see what is does and doesn't do...but consumer report and eopinions really give some good feedback.
