This past Saturday I was looking around in Barnes and Noble, (something I don't get to do nearly enough), and I came across a series written by J. Ardian Lee called the Sword series. I don't know how many books are in this series, but it looked really good.

I guess the concept for the series is that a 20th century American is transported to 17th or 18th century Scotland by way of Faerie magic. Aside from the Faerie Magic part, it looked a lot more like Historical Fiction rather than fantasy.

Has anyone read this, and can anyone comment? Thank you...I very much appreciate it.

-Chris

Hmm...I have not heard of him/her. But are they newer books? I can go check out my library and see whether or not they are there. Is it sort of like that book "Timeline" by Michael Crichton?

I don't know if they're new or not. I haven't had time yet to do some good searches online to see if there's any other info on that author. I'm considering getting the first book and then just seeing how it turns out. I'll post on here if it's any good. smile.gif

Hello,

I know those books; I am friends with the author. I am myself an author of Scottish historical fiction (www.pirateangel.com). The books are good, I enjoy them, and they are better written than the Outlander series. Also, they focus more on plot and character development as opposed to tartan-veiled porn (which I believe Outlander is- I don't think putting a sex scene on every other page qualifies anyone to be a good author, as anyone could do that and sell millions). Lee's history is very good as well, she studied it quite a bit. Anyway, I think you will enjoy the books. The final installment of the series just came out last month, so they are relatively new.

Ok, not that it took much, but you have completely convinced me to get all of these books. smile.gif As soon as I get a little more of the ol' spending money, I'll be plunking down some bucks for those, thank you. I have read a sample chapter on her site, and she did an excellent job. I really want to read them now.
