Uh, I'm not exactly sure what to make of this.

Welcome to the home of extreme ironing - the latest danger sport that combines the thrills of an extreme outdoor activity with the satisfaction of a well pressed shirt.

Huh? Did they just say something about ironing being dangerous? Full of thrills? An extreme outdoor activity?

QUOTE
The sport that is 'extreme ironing' is an outdoor activity that combines the danger and excitement of an 'extreme' sport with the satisfaction of a well pressed shirt. It involves taking an iron and board (if possible) to remote locations and ironing a few items of laundry. This can involve ironing on a mountainside, preferably on a difficult climb, or taking an iron skiing, snowboarding or canoeing.

It all started in the city of Leicester in the UK, in the summer of 1997. When mild mannered Steam, returned home after a long day in the knitwear factory, the last thing he wanted to do was start on a pile of ironing. The sun was shining and Phil preferred the idea of an evening out pursuing his (somewhat unsuccessful) hobby of rock climbing. Then it occurred to him to combine these activities into an extreme sport - the result: extreme ironing. From there it was taken all over the country and when the website was launched it was taken up all over the world.

Folks, I don't believe I can type the words necessary to fully describe Extreme Ironing. I urge you to visit the site yourself.

Is this a huge hoax, or is it legit? I have no idea - I'll let you decide for yourselves.

Sounds like someone was really "pressed" for an idea. Then again, maybe they were just extremely "board". I don't think the sport will last too long; it's bound to run out of steam sooner or later.

Battery powered Iron? I don't see a fire to heat it that way. And no generator or similar for a corded electric element.... Unless he's ironing in Hell, the ambient temperature isn't likely to be hot enough I'd say...

Well -- you could say that anyone who is ironing is in hell, I guess.

This could branch out though. I can see an extrteme dishwashing with a stiff penalty system for breakage and a marathon after Thanksgiving dinner. tongue.gif
