Along time ago in another lifetime there was a girls room for us to discuss womanly things and guys loved to peek in here to see what's the chatting about but I don't see it on here anymore. OldRaven jumped into the facial moisturizer discussion before he got married once and that was how many years ago? 3? Shame girls, you let that room die? We always have something to talk about so be like Stacey Langston (What not to Wear) and fix yourself a drink and come on in...
I've been thinking about the girls only chat room here lately. I need to know about the latest fashions, what to wear and what not to wear, hair do's or dont's, what's hot in lip and nail polish color, what type of jeans should I wear, the low rise, the mid rise or sit at my waist, boot cut or straight. and the most important thing, the dreaded MENOPAUSE, hormones, you women that have went thru the hot flashes, the don't touch me or I'll bite your head off, the mood swings, the say one thing wrong and you'll hurt my feelings so bad it takes a box of tissues to mop up my tears and then I'll throw a hissy fit and hide the most important thing in a man's life, "the remote"! or be a really nice wife and ask my dear sweet mother to spend a month with her favorite son-in-law and take care of the house so I can have time for myself, some me time!!! maybe take a trip out of the country. I think Ireland would be a very nice place to visit this time of year. All you guys out there have a nice week!!!
O.K. I'll jump in. What is the best thing to use for hotflashes? I can deal with them during the day, but they are killing me at night. Just get to sleep and one will hit. Throw off the covers for awhile then cover back up when I get cold. A vicious cycle all night long. really do not want to do the HRT after hearing all of the bad things about it.

It stops eventually, but not quickly. Your best bet is to buy a bunch of little cheap 8" table fans and have them in every room of the house, and at work, and DON'T cut your hair thinking to make it cooler -- grow it long enough to pin up securely and get it off your face and neck, esp. in summer. You could also try the natural way of replacing a wee bit of juice -- soy products: tofu, soy milk, soy beans. It doesn't cover everything, but it really does take the edge off.

Valpal-I can't help you there. I am still waiting for a hot flash. Everyone says I should be having them. I'm always cold. But I have wondered, if I stop feeling cold all of the time is that my hot flash?
Then I guess I haven't had a hot flash yet. The girls at work that have them just about freeze me to death. Every time I turn around they have the thermostat all the way down which is so rude to those of us that don't have the problem. I feel for them but I have to work there too. I think personal fans are a good idea and have even suggested it, but they say it isn't enough. I never have been a hormonal person so perhaps this phase will pass me by.
Gwenlee--I hope you are lucky and don't have the hot flashes. For me that has been the worst part. The mood swings were bad for awhile, but they are pretty much gone now. Going 4 months without a monthly visit and then having one the 5th month, now that will cause my mood to swing. I so want it all over with NOW!!!
I've had hot flashes for about 6 years now, the last two years being the worst! When I was in my 40's something I went thru feeling cold, the Dr. thought it was my thryoid, that checked out ok. Anyway to make a long story short Mr. Monthly hasn't paid a visit since last year in August and Guess what?, I haven't had a hot flash in 10 days!!!! Bring out the Band and the Drinks, it's Party time!!!! WhooHoo! I can't say I won't have anymore, but it's such a WONDERFUL feeling not having those power surges for now. I'm hoping that Mr. Monthly is a thing of the past. If not, I'll just deal with it as I can. Some days good, some days not so good!
gwenlee, when you have a hot flash, believe me, you will know it!!! valpal, I used to take black cohosh, I stopped about a year ago, I can't say if it helped or not. The mood swings have been very bad for me, there are times I have been a total b tch. I hope you ladies survive!!! I'm ready to get thru this stage of my life on to another!!!
I'm almost afraid I'll jinx myself by saying this but I have only had two hot flashes in the past year. I'm still very irregular and will go about two months between periods most of the time. Last year I got so pissed when my cycle started the week before Dragon*Con and I was still spotting the first two days of the convention. That was so annoying.
Then, last month, my next-to-the-youngest daughter was having issues with severe cramping (she's just 13) and I had to take her to the emergency room, followed up by a visit to my OB-GYN office for her. So, here I am, taking her to the doc and my period starts with a vengeance! I got to his office and I had excuse myself to run to the restroom and deal with my own flooding. Geez. I was so glad I wore dark brown pants that day.
I do notice the mood swings getting worse though. And my SO has been on the wrong end of those for the past couple of months. I feel badly because he's considerably younger than I and he's putting up with me when most guys his age are worrying that they'll get their partners pregnant. At least he doesn't have to deal with that!

I had a hysterectomy in 97 so maybe the hot flashes will by pass me. I still have my ovaries and about 3 years ago I had some blood test done to see if I was in menopause. At that time I was told that if I still had a uterus there would be no problems getting pregnant. No surprise to me I have always been a fertile Myrtle.
I went kicking a screaming into the hysterectomy club, but it was the best thing. My periods were every 2 weeks and I would birth hugh blood clots. I got very anemic.
My sister who is 47 says she has problems with mood swings. So far I haven't had that either. My sister said she isn't surprised because I never had PMS.
gwenlee, yes if you don't have the mood swings your family is lucky!!!
It's been 2 weeks and no power surges... I haven't had to go outside and sit on the front steps to cool off, haven't had to turn the AC on in the vehicle, my hubby is very glad about that, he doesn't have to dress like he lives in Alaska when we go out together!!! Ain't life Grand!!!
Has anyone used the the steamers to clean their floors and take the wrinkles out of the clothes? I am not liking the stuff I am using on my new laminate flooring. It streaks really bad. The bottle said it was made for that type of flooring and no streaks. Yea right. Just like glass cleaner doesn't streak. Never found anything that won't streak. I spend too much time ironing my work clothes. Would like to find a quicker way to get the wrinkles out of the ones I have to hang up to dry. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
It's no wonder us women are so tough! I hope everyone having symptoms gets relief soon.
Today I just read in the newspaper that more than 40 Million American women are currently in menopause, a number expected to increase to 60 million over the next 25 years. That means about 15% of the population is menopausal.
Val- I agree with you on the doesn't streak...I haven't used a steamer on my floor. The way my luck goes it would melt my floor. I've never had any luck with steamers either..
What I do for my wrinkled clothes is take them off the line put in the dryer-spray a few sprays of the Downy wrinkle releaser, or rose or lavendar water. Not a lot. And then I dry them in the dryer until I can feel the heat in the clothing remove and hang up. It usually will remove most wrinkles. If your talking very dressy clothes..I guess I would have to say I iron.
Anyone have a Spot Bot? It's a rug cleaner like the old little green machine? If so do you like it?
