Recently I heard something that was very surprising to me and I was even more surprised that it disturbed me!
I work with a woman who loves to "pick" on me for having red hair, and not in a joking haha way either. She has recently been on a kick about redheads being extinct by 2060. I decided to look it up today, (even though she prides herself on being the smartest person to walk the face of the earth) I found out this isn't the case at all. Red hair will continue on as it always has. So far, oddly enough, all of the women in my family have had a red head or two in every brood. I'm anxious for my day. I have married into a dark swiss/germanic family and according to the article below BOTH parents have to have the recessive gene.
I've heard the same about redheads....and blondes and blue eyes. I think some people are jealous. In my family, the red is our beards. No matter what hair color we have, our beards are red. My dad had black hair, my brother and I had brown, my sons are sandy blonde and my nephew is red headed. All of us have/had deep red beards.
BTW Scientists have recently discovered a gene in Neanderthals that shows they had "ginger hair and blue eyes".
I have always heard that I have AUBURN hair. But I guess you could say that it is RED....some also refer to it as STRAWBERRY BLONDE.
Whatever it is, I have the RED-HAIRED GENE in my family..... the Finnish/Scandinavian one!!!!!!!!

]AN EXCERPT FROM A POEM THAT I WROTE ON 10/11/07
WE CAN'T CHANGE WHAT WE HAVE DONE.... BUT ONLY TAKE A LESSON FROM EACH EXPERIENCE AND MAKE THE MOST OF EACH MINUTE THAT WE HAVE LEFT AND TELL OURELVES THAT IT IS OK TO LIVE, LAUGH AND CRY..... PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE ALL WORK TOGETHER TO GIVE US WHAT WE CAN AND SHOULD EXPERIENCE AND WE NEED TO CHERISH ALL OF THE TIME THAT WE SPEND WITH OURSELVES AND OTHERS MAKING THE MOST OF THE SPECIAL MEMORIES THAT ARE OURS.. AND THE ONES THAT WE HAVE YET TO CREATE WITH THE PEOPLE THAT WE HAVEN'T MET!!!!![/SIZE]
Ginger hair skipped a generation in my family. My sister has red hair and a brother does too. My children all had brown/black hair and their children have red hair or close.
I do not care what branch of the tree my family goes back to.
I have read some of these studies; that Redhair is disappearing, blonde hair is disappearing and that blue eyes are disappearing.
Regarding the third item I have been thinking lately of establishing a political action committee to stop the discrimination of blue eyed peoples!
I think alot of these studies assume that as these people have children with non-red heads, and non-blue eyed people those attributes will disappear. Not to bring in a racial discussion here, but some of these studies also state that the caucasian race (anglo saxxon) is going to disappear from the earth in 200 years.
As Europe continues to allow immigrants of all different backgrounds come to Europe then eventually the caucasian race will become a minority; it is projected to happen in England in 2100.
Since these immigrant nations do not have any white populations, the caucasian race will eventually disappear as the immigrants can be continously replenished from their homelands whereas there may not be any 100% caucasian Christian nations left in a 100 years.
Blonde, blue eyes???? I like blue-eyes...... The Caucasian race seems to be in the minority anywhere you look now adays, doesn't it?? With so many immigrants into the United States alone....... Is the Blue Eyed-Blone Haired American Race going the way of extinction?
Red Hair -- There will always be red hair in this world as long as there are good Celtic men to appreciate it and the fine folks at Clairol, L'Oreal, and Revlon.
Blue Eyes -- I happen to be the proud father of 4 all with blue eyes just like mine. My poor wife's eyes are brown and everyone always comments that it is amazing that all of our children have blue eyes. I just tell them that strong Irish Genes trump pooh levels anytime
I cannot tell you how much I LOVE red hair! I always have. Too bad for me, I have dark brown, naturally anyways! It wont stop me, I dye my hair red!
I was 13 years old the first time dye touched my hair. I was wearing my best friends black Pearl Jam T Shirt when it happened. She had some red dye and started to put the stuff on my dark brown hair! I remember looking in the mirror and falling in love with the deep red that mixed in with my hair strands!
For years I have had one red color after another. True, nothing on my hair looks natural, and as much as I love my red it will never be as beautiful as a natural red head!
It the red heads ever disappear I would be very upset!

I agree Madadh....only our hairdresser knows and profits to Lady Clairol and the rest of the hair dye industry! Hubby and I both have blue eyes and our 3 daughters have blue eyes. 4 out of 6 grandchildren have blue eyes, only 2 with brown. You gotta' love those Irish genes!!!
