Background: The name Bannerman is said to have originated when Sir Alexander Carron was made hereditary Standard Bearer to the king because of his bravery at the River Spey in the late eleventh or early twelfth century.

Variations: Bannerman, Bannaman, Bannermane, Banerman, Banermain.
