My dear friends on Celtic Radio,

it is the day before Christmas Eve. It is the time of Yuletide.
Many celebrate the birth of Christ, others celebrate Yultide, the beginning of the realm of the Oak king, the returning of the light.
Belief is a very individual thing and we should remember not to trouble anyone about their views and demand that they respect yours.
So however you celebrate, I wish you Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a blessed Yule. May the spirit of the season fill your hearts and souls with light.

Blessings to all, may you always walk in peace.

Gabby

Did you have a great holiday? Hopefully you were deliriously happy!

My long-distance cousin, in the Czech Republic sent me a letter talking about the old and new traditions in his country that center around the celebration of Christmas.

Some interesting tidbits; many traditions are still practiced today. After centuries of change, the traditions have survived.

Anyone want to offer up a description of a tradition popular in their area, or even in their own family?

More than 60 years ago, my mother built a small manger and nativity scene and thatched the roof with straw from my great grandfather's farm. We have carefully preserved it and to this day. My siblings and their families don't feel as if it's really Christmas unless each of us make sure that that old star in just perfectly patted in place.

There has been discussion about who is willing to give up celebrating Christmas since not all of us can inherit what has become a family treasure. Anyone that does not touch the manager will simply be overlooked by Santa and his elves.
