maggiemahone1, I was corrected by my Wife on fishing on my Birthday. She reminded that she went with me last year. That I need to apologize via Forum. But yes I did spend the day with her even when she wanted to go SHOPPING.

Oh Richard, you make our heart go pitter patter. You are so good to go with your wife on her birthday!!! We are taking you with us to our next Chick - Flick! Now don't say NO, Elspeth, Maryellen and I are all paying...even the popcorn and coca-cola!!! Proud of you fella! Now when do we plan the fishing trip, your birthday is? Annabelle
Wait a minute Annabelle! I don't want to go to a chick flick. I want to go fishing!
Richard promises that even those of us of diminutive stature can fly fish. I don't believe him for a minute.
But imagine the fun of watching a bunch of anglers on the water, especially those like me who don't have a clue...... THAT would be more entertaining than any film.

Compassion is the sometimes fatal capacity for feeling what it is like inside somebody else's skin. It is the knowledge that there can never really be any peace and joy for me until there is peace and joy finally for you too. - Frederick Buechner
If society prospers at the expense of the intangibles, how can it be called progress?
Fly fishing? My Dad tried to teach me and my brother when I was about 10. He put a hula-hoop on the ground at the end of the yard, showed us how to cast, and said when we could hit the hoop consistently he would take us fishing. Well, my 8 year old brother went fishing. I never did. But I didn't practice much either. Should have had a bigger hoop!

If age is a learning experience, I should be a genius by now...
! like fishing in the bay off a pier or a boat though. Tried surf fishing, but there's that casting thing again.... My favorite pier washed away in the hurricane.
I'm off to the Netherlands this weekend to practice speaking my Dutch and eat loads of raw herring (it tastes better than it sounds... honest)
You can have my share of it then.
I try to not eat anything raw. I had some sushi once that wasn't cleaned properly and I spent the night and half of the next day doing this---> .

I know a few people who react badly to seafood even when it's cooked but fortunately for me I can pretty much eat any kind of seafood. My greatest memory was attending the annual mussel festival in Co. Waterford where you got 'em by the bucket
And oh what a lovely rut to be in, Keltic, but that only takes up my mornings which leaves a lot of daylight to burn......in a manner of speaking....and then comes the cover of darkness. Like Warren Zevon said "I'll sleep when I'm dead."
"The Excitable Boy" is really just taking a very long nap, I'm thinking.

Some men are drawn to oceans, they cannot breathe unless the air is scented with a salty mist. Others are drawn to land that is flat, and the air is sullen and is leaden as August. My people were drawn to mountains- Earl Hamner Jr.
