Federal Emp Pay Freeze, States To Follow

It was announced on Fox and CNN this AM that a federal pay freeze is coming soon. A number of states have announced a freeze and/or cuts to plug the budget drain. This is likely to rile AFSCME (American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees), the nations largest union as they represent mostly government employees!

I agree! When I first began working in govt, they made much less than the private sector. I was interested in vesting health insurance and since I owned a business, I could afford to work for less. Initially it took 5 years to secure health coverage at retirement and that quickly moved to 10. At 10 years, management salary was equal to the private sector, due mostly to AFSCME organizing the non management employees, thus I stayed.

I believe they will accept a freeze but cuts may start riots, even in my conservative community.

I also believe we still have interesting times in our future.

It now appears that this was attached to spending measures and passage is in question. It would have been a move in the right direction.
