Although they do not hold a St. Patrick's Day parade today in Angola, IN, I am comforted by the memories of those parades that I DID have the pleasure to see and to participate in --- the NYC St. Patrick's Day parade in the 60s that was headed up by the Kennedy family and Cardinal Spellman, and several of the St. Patrick's Day parades held in Chicago, where they dye the river green! tongue.gif. and where 500,000+ Irish-Americans celebrate the day in good Irish fashion! biggrin.gif cheers.gif clap.gif beer.gif band.gif argue.gif bangin.gif beer.gif censored.gif doctor.gif
And, my friends, the emoticons tell the story!
My best wishes to you all, and 'may you be in Heaven a half an hour before the devil knows you're dead!!!' angel_not.gif

QUOTE (Herrerano @ Sep 26 2003, 12:54 PM)
That is the irritating marquee tag, I think it only works if you are using IE, it will just look like a normal post if you are using Netscape. Their irritating tag is called <b><blink><font size=6 color=red>blink</blink></font></b>, but since I don't have netscape I won't know if it works or not.

Leo cool.gif

Leo,
Hola, mi amigo! The "blinking" works with Netscape as well (I have Netscape 7.15, and refuse to go with IE!). I must confess that I am amazed and mildly curious about how you are able to get the icons and smilies into your messages and posts!
Buenas tardes.

I found this poem hanging in the CelticRadio store, and I thought it appropriate:
Light One Candle

Light one candle for the strength that we need
To never become our own foe
And light one candle for those who are suffering
Pain we learned so long ago
Light one candle for all we believe in
That anger not tear us apart
And light one candle to find us together
With peace as the song in our hearts

And with that, I add that I,too am involved in genealogy. THe Hewitts, from Glasgow, Scotland, and the Martins, Pattersons, and the Greers, who come from the length and breadth of Ireland, from County Down, to Antrim, to Cork, to Limerick. Our families are on Family Tree, and I've listed just under 3000 names which are in the FTM files.
We live north of Ft. Wayne, which is also well-known for genealogical record-keeping, but I've yet to dig. ---- In doing research on the Hewitts recently, I found a goodly number of them (no relative) who settled - in Ontario, for the most part. As we know, many emigrated around 1840-1860 in order to survive the famines and downturns in industry.
Organizing the genealogy form will, indeed, be the key. Good luck! If I can help, please contact me. cool.gif

QUOTE (scottish2 @ Oct 1 2003, 07:01 AM)
Hey Gang

I thought since only a handful get involved in our politics forum this might be better placed here.

As some of you may know recently the new National Do Not Call List came under attack by the courts saying this is protected speech because it is not equal (other groups can still call you) but all this is is telephone harrassment which is illegal not protected speech. So here is what I propose. In the past I have used airhorns the type you can buy at Walmart in their boat section and when a telemarketer calls blast them out. Enough blasting and they'll stop calling you. If the courts will not let us request these criminals to stop then we have to take actgion into our own hands and this is the next best solution and the next best deterant.

So lets all get our horns ready.  toot.gif

And thanks Paul that's the perfect smilie. thumbs_up.gif

First, I'd like to say that we've enrolled in both the national DoNotCall and the Indiana DoNotCall lists. And, I am an ex-Customer Service Manager ('70s). Today's telemarketing is crude and rude;today's telemarketing efforts are obviously scripted, and the activity is time-sensitive, i.e., the spiel should take no more than xx seconds, and the customer's comment will be either A or B, and here is your response to A or B (see 'Overcoming Objections' in your 'How to Be a Salesperson' manual. tongue.gif ) With that in mind, the telemarketing caller cannot spend more than so many minutes on the phone call.
My suggestion (vs. the air horns, which may deafen you as badly as the caller!
unsure.gif ) is to ask the telemarketing caller, "Could you wait for a moment, please?"
Then you lay the phone down for several minutes angel_not.gif . VERY few telemarketers will still be on the line after 2-3 minutes wait. rolleyes.gif If they are still on the line after that time, you can simply pick up the phone, quickly say, "Sorry, not interested." ... and disconnect!
That's my tuppence.

Good afternoon, everyone,
What a delightful assemblage of parts --- music, conversation --- the only thing missing is a pint of Guiness!! beer_mug.gif biggrin.gif
I am a white-haired Celtic, with kin from both sides of the Irish Sea. My name is James Hewitt Harris, but I am often called (for those who are civil) either Seamus or Kimo, in addition to Jim.
I hope that your summer has become cooler. We've enjoyed a wetter summer here in the Midwest state of Indiana, so the corn is 10-12m tall!
I wish you well.
