Hi, I just joined and am stopping by to to introduce myself.

I am a 68 year old retiree, former fish doctor, ergo my username FISHDOC.

I love music, especially Appalachian folk music and traditional Celtic. I am not a musician although I dabble with the banjo, hammered and Appalachian dulcimers, and just picked up a penny whistle.

So I am anxious to listen to lots of penny whistle music and perhaps pick up a few tips to help me learn how to play.

I also am going to try to make a plastic low D whistle from hot water PVC pipe. Eventually I would like to make a wooden penny whistle, but have not been able to find any instructions on how to do this - so if you can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

Well, good listening to all of you, and I am looking forward to meeting some of you.

Greetings Fishdoc, from Henderson, KY!

Were you by chance at the Dulcimer festival in Owensboro, KY recently? I have represhed musical talents which I plan to unleash in the future ... or when I retire.

There is some fantastic music on Highlander Radio. When you find what you like, be sure to support the groups with posts and thumbs_up.gif and even purchases now and again.

Glad to have you on board. You might check out the Medieval Kingdom game too.

Hello and thanks to everyone who has welcomed me to this community. Several have said that you look forward to my "posts", but what am I supposed to post? I am up to 5 tin whistles now and still trying to learn how to play. I can play simple melodies to songs that I already know, but have trouble at the high and low end of the scales. And I have a lot of trouble trying to learn a new song from script.

I hope everyone has a glorious 4th.

Do not feel bad, I got a "free" set of antique pipes that have not been so free. In nearly 5 years, my dog likes the music and I can play only one song "reasonably" well.

Just look for things that interest you. There is much more here than things of Celtic interest.

Your town sounds familiar. Would there be good fishing near you? (possibly Salmon)
