Because of Celtic Radio I have had the priviledge of hearing and learning more about Celtic music and as a result my CD collection has grown. My favorite songs are: 1. The Mummer's Dance by Loreena McKinnett 2. Scotland the Brave (by any artist) 3. Anything by Capercaillie 4. Anything by Runrig My list will be growing! CDs that I have purchased since listening to Celtic Radio has been Capercaillie and Runrig. My latest has been John McLean Allan's "Stand Easy." Absolutely wonderful CD and a must get if you like Bagpipes and rock together! Anxious to hear your favorites and recommendations. |

My fav's: Heather Dale - Mordred's Lullaby is the best Barret's Privateers/Garnet's Home Made Beer - Stan Rogers, Irish Descendants, Ian Robb Rattlin' Bog Every River from some anonymous band on the Celtic Dawn album Flower of Scotland (most all versions) Heave Away - Heave Away Most Great Big Sea, Clancy Bros, Alphabet Song, The Fly, Wellington Boots (basically list all the humour songs) Capercaillie - The Tree and Mionam are my favs Wicked Tinkers, Scottish Rogues, Clan An Drumma for those Highland Pipe/Drum moments Rankin Family - Mull River Shuffle Oh...too much to list. Bands I'd like to hear less of : Runrig, Glengharry Boys |

Since listening to HR I've discovered that I am a fan of the following groups: Schooner Fare: Alive The Fenians: Band of Rogues Amadan: Sons of Liberty Runrig: Celtic Glory Stone Soup Band: Free Night in Dublin Great Big Sea: Up I've gone to the local music stores but none of them carry any of their CDs nor do they want to special order them. Looks like I have to buy online... (I'll probably get a better deal though!! ) |

I posted a list some time back of CD's I have thanks to HR. That list has changed though, and grown. Let me re-compile: Currently in my collection: Emerald Rose: Bending Tradition Heather Dale: The Trial of Lancelot Heather Dale: May Queen (not directly, but really anything I buy of Heather's is thanks to discovering her here) Heather Dale: Call the Names Clannad: Banba Connie Dover: Border of Heaven Natalie MacMaster: No Boundaries (Also thanks to the Celtic Tides documentary) Siu'cra: Here Among Strangers Rise: Uncertain Wonders Steve McDonald: Sons of Somerled Frank McCourt, Roma Downey, and Pan Morigan: Castles of Gold Ennis Sisters: 3 (Just came in today, and not officially linked into my library just yet. Will be within the next 48 hours though) On order: Amadan: Sons of Liberty Trying to get ahold of: Silly Wizard: Live Wizardry I was just sorting through my CD collection last night, and if you only count CD's, then I have more Celtic music than any other style or Genre. Now, if you add in Cassette, LP, and 8-trak, then obviously the numbers shift to where I have more Pop Rock and perhaps even more contemporary Country music, but CD only, Celtic folk tops the charts in multiple ways. |

I have really come to love the Wicked Tinkers! I think I might get one of their CDs as well. How could I have forgotten Natalie McMaster -- The Drunken Piper! I LOVE that song! |
Posted by: Aaediwen 19-Feb-2004, 06:19 PM |
Drunken Piper and Catharsis were the ones that filled my pre-purchase requirement of liking 2 songs on the CD first. I already had Catharsis on the soundtrack to the Celtic Tides documentary, and had heard Drunken Piper on said video but I didn't know what it was until I heard it here. Seems like I may have heard more here too before i bought the CD... |

I've purchased Dougie MacLean's "Tribute" and "Craigue Dhu" and Runrig's "Stamping Ground" because of songs I heard on Highland Radio. If everybody who's buying their CDs from Amazon.com uses the links on the website it helps Macfive (and Mrs. Macfive and the kiddies) with the funding of the website and Highland Radio. I also suspect that if you're going to buy something else from Amazon.com that if you go there via the link on the celticradio.net home page those items are also credited to Highland Radio (I pm'd Macfive on this but he hasn't gotten back to me, so I'm guessing based on my reading of the affiliate page at Amazon.com that this is how it works). There is no extra cost associated with buying from Amazon.com (it just lowers their margins when they pay their affiliated websites {they consider to be like paying for advertising}) MacE |

if you like Dougie MacLean go for Fiddle this is very good but pls check it out at amazon UK site, or http://www.dougiemaclean.com |

Thought I would resurrect this post from 2004. Again, thanks for all that have purchased CDs and at the same time wrote to the artists to inform them about their purchase. It is definitely good PR for Highlander Radio and we much appreciate it! |

I thought there was another thread where I'd mentioned some purchases but I've done more since then. But, all of my music purchases in the past three years are based what I've heard on CelticRadio.net (with the exception of the Young Dubliners, they need to send you music) From what I can distinctly recall purhcasing Aselin Debison - Sweet is the melody Great Big Sea - Live album Barleyjuice - What's up yours The Elders - 4 disc pack of everything (new CD coming out soon by the way) Brendan Nolan - Where do I go from here and Across the great divide Young Dubliners - Real World Carbon Leaf - Echo Echo and Indian Summer John Whelan - Celtic Roots [edit] Stepped out for lunch and was reminded I also picked up Scott Long - In and out of the harbor [/edit] |

I'm not really sure where I get more satisfaction from. Obtaining new exposure to artists that I did not know... or exposing people to artists that I DO know. Having my friends donate their music to Celtic Radio for airplay has been a wonderful thing! Especially when folks rave about them! Thanks for all of them. Artists that I REALLY had to run out and get their music (or have them swap with me) have been many. Some of my favorites (on and off stage) are: Silly Wizard Clumbsy Lovers Seamus Kennedy Bill Jones |

time to treat myself to some music again... I just dropped by the NeedFire website and ordered both their albums. There should be a Celtic Music Anonymous group somewhere I can join right???? |

I have brought several of Highland Reign's CD's. I have started a list of CD's that I want to pickup. Charlie Zahm Wicked Tinkers and Ceann are on the list so far. Need to find a good place to buy them. Anyone around Indianapolis know of a place that might sell these CD's? |
Posted by: Senara 05-Apr-2006, 11:35 AM |
the more mainstream stuff I've had luck finding at a Border's Bookstore. They've got a decent Celtic collection, but probably the best place to find what you're looking for is probably by clicking on the "BUY" links here on CR. |

well, there's a Celtic music Lover's group right here As far as somewhere to break the habit. . . who needs it and why on Earth would you want to |
Posted by: Senara 06-Apr-2006, 07:22 AM |

Anyone looking to get the newest stuff from Barleyjuice, Albannach and The Wicked Tinkers should just go to Hartford, CT on September 30th. The "Pipes In The Valley" festival will have us all there! If there's time, feel free to bring along your mp3's of music that you would like to recommend. Over a pint or two, we can sit and give it a listen. |

Just picked up Barleyjuice's "Six Yanks" and "Another Round" at Irishfest in Milwaukee. Also got Drums of Ireland's "Live at Big Top Chatauqua" cuz Big Top is only about 45 minutes from my place. Runrig and Dust Rhinos will be the next order for me. DR does a great rendition of U2's "Where the Streets Have No Name." |
