First of all, Welcome to Celtic Radio! There may be a few reasons why this is but probably the most likely is that The Kenmure Clan/surname was originally linked to the Gordon Surname, you can always try searching the Celtic Radio Surname Database but I cant promise you'll find anything.

As jime said, more than likely, Kenmure was a sept of Gordon. You might also try searching on Mure (and Muir, More and other permutations of the same name). Also, remember that over the years, the spelling may have been altered, so look for the "sound" and not just the spelling. You might try the following websites: http://www.houseoftartan.co.uk/scottish/searchsurname.asp http://www.electricscotland.com/webclans/index.html

Kenmuir

If it helps you a James Kenmuir was born in the late 16oos and about a century later one of his decendents married into the Ross family. You might also try, if you haven't already www.rossfamily.btinternet.co.uk/Family Trees/Kenmuir.

Camac

Ps. On google type in clan kenmuir.

It seems that the Kenmure name might be a place name. You probably came across the Kenmure castle which was the home of the Gordons. I haven't found any history to the area but this link might help. It seems Kenmure or Kenmore was taken as a name because it was the name of the location.
