CelticCoalition, I like that piece a lot. It's so sensory -- especially tactile. And brave too, in the 1st person (I find that the very hardest to do.)
I'm an admin at an adult Harry Potter commentary site. We have this exercise we started called "If these things could speak," that was created to work on exactly that "first person" challenge. (Also to get away from the typical fanfiction drill.) They were monologues by inanimate objects from the books. I love that strict (yet within strict, boundless) feeling you can get with a controlled form or subject, then the infinite ways you can make it express.
