Hi, Shadows! Not sure what I'll be doing for Easter this year. I haven't been to the store yet. Growing up, the traditional Easter meal was roast leg of lamp with roasted potatoes, apple mint jelly, peas & rolls. OH.....small can of cream corn for my dad.

What are you going to do this year?

This kind of stuff is so very interesting. It turns everything we think we know about the Irish culture on its ear. The scientific tools to provide this kind of information are just amazing as are the people who discover, research, & prove or disprove the theories.

WOW.....how interesting is that?! I've always believed there is a kernel of truth (fact) in most legends, myths, folk tales/remedies. Sifting down to the kernel can be a mind-blowing experience, though.

Hey there, Skinner, et al! I never claimed to be sane either. I like to think of myself as quirky! In any case, earthquakes will never be on my bucket list! I like to reserve that for FUN things! tongue.gif

WallaceGal....I wish I played an instrument. I never quite managed though. I played piano some as a kid and loved it but never was better than adequate. I think I am just too impatient. When I retire I'd like to get back to playing the piano and learn how to make beaded jewelry as well as cross-stitching.

Merry Christmas and best wishes for a joyous New Year...........WallaceGal, five4, and haynes9.

Music seems to tie my life together. A large number of my memories are triggered by hearing a song.......I like that. I don't plan on ever stopping my singing......it's a really huge part of who I am.

WallaceGal, it really is a small world. I'm betting you still love your music. Do you play an instrument as well as sing?

When I was in high school I was chosen to join the A Capella Choir. The choir routinely placed in state competitions. I was also chosen as a member of the Madrigals. Only a member of the A Capella Choir could audition for the Madrigals. While Choir was part of the school curriculum, Madrigals was completely extra-curricular. I still love to sing and I knock 'em dead at karaoke. It's still not the same as getting a group of friends to walk door to door during the season, though. I'd love to bring it back but today's music doesn't really lend itself to harmony singing. cool.gif

[SIZE=7]Christmas really is a special time of the year.....filled with memories both glad and sad. Bittersweet rather than sad. Doesn't matter how many years have gone by, I still love watching my friends and family open the gifts I have made or chosen specifically for them. I love seeing the houses decorated and festooned with lights. Among my best memories are the times a group of us would get together to go caroling. I always love singing the carols and adding a harmony here and there as I remember them from "olden times". Hahaha

A very Merry Christmas to my Celtic Radio friends!!

How wonderful it is to others share in their holiday traditions! I've heard the story of Santa Lucia as well as St. Nicholas (not to be confused with Santa Clause). This is a beautiful time of the year and leaves all our lives so much richer. I love the many musical stories performed at this time whether their roots are in Paganism, Christianity, Islam, Ba'hai, Jewish, Buddhism, Kwanza note.gif ....whatever.

five4, that is beyond awesome. Shows that the American spirit and patriotism are alive and well at the grass roots. You can tell that a lot of thought and heart went into that display.

David, Samuel's story sure illustrates the indomitable spirit of Americans....You can knock us down but you can't keep us down! God Bless the USA.

My Dad was a WWII vet, too. He served in the 3rd Armored Division which was nominally under Patton. He landed on the beach in Normandy and served the entire war in Europe. To say he was lucky to be alive in an understatement. He never spoke of the war while I was growing up although he took my brother and I to see The Longest Day when it first came out to the theaters. As my siblings and I grew up, we often tried to convince to write about his experiences. His response was always that his life experiences weren't any different or more special than anyone who served at that time. He never did write a book but he started to open up about some of those memories after he was diagnosed with colon cancer. He's been gone for 7 years now but his remains rest in Arlington National Cemetary.

Shortly after his interment, I found a wonderful site, www.greenbeans.com. They are located at various bases around the world and you can send donations as small as $2 to buy a "cup of Joe" for the enlisted. The site even gives you an option of sending a message to the service person along with the coffee.
