| I still cannot find the Beginner's page; so, shall take advantage of everyone's good nature here. In these two sentences, the tense is the same in both clauses. Rydw i'n gwybod eich bod chi'n edrych. I know that you are looking. Roeddwn i'n meddwl ei bod hi'n oer neithiwr. I thought that it was cold last night. Now, please, how do you write a sentence where the two clauses are different tenses? E.g. I know that you went to Spain last year. Thank you. Hazel |

| I believe there are several ways to say this Hazel. Rydw i'n gwybod fod ti wedi mynd i Sbaen y llynedd - using a wedi tense Rydw i'n gwybod iti fynd i Sbaen y llynedd - in the past tense using "that" you can use iti, iddi, iddo, iddyn etc.- this is often used in mixed tenses like this Gwn i fod ti wedi mynd i Sbaen y llynedd - using a conjugate of gwybod. | I'm afraid that latter does not work, Antwn. (Gwn i fod est ti i Sbaen). "Bod" cannot be followed by a conjugated verb, only by the verbnoun. The best way for you to translate your example, Hazel is by saying: Gwn dy fod wedi mynd i Sbaen llynedd Rwy'n gwybod dy fod wedi mynd i Sbaen llynedd Often, you will just have to accept that subordinate clauses generally do not have a tense and that you will realise whether it is the past or present by the tense of the main clause and the context. |
