Beautiful and touching to say the least!

Here you have Highland Way in concert; had the opportunity to see them in person a few times now at Scottish Fest in Costa Mesa, California; their version of Caledonia is amongst my favorites.

Enjoy!

Track number Seven (7) on Owen's "Endless Time" CD. The song tells the story about Annie Moore. The first Irish emigrant at the age of fifteen (15) to arrive into Ellis Island.

Hope you all enjoy this track and video as much as I do!

On a visit to an Irish museum, in Wexford years ago, I found my self looking at the masthead of the Clipper Ship Pomona. It was in a castle collection of other maritime odds & ends. The masthead was one of only a few things removed from the grave of the ship. (Used at the end of the Video)

There was a storm outside the castle, and thunder started to rock the place. As I read the statement of history, under the masthead location, I learned about the story. Lightning entered at that same moment through the windows and crossed the eyes of the Pomona maiden that was made of wood. A very strange feeling came over me when I read the last line of the story, in which hard- helmet divers, days after the wreck, had found many of the Irish passengers still holding arms together as they died under water in the hold of the ship.
(I removed that verse from the song ballad)

I started to think about the 380 Irish passengers on the day they left Liverpool, and that this Clipper ship from America, had brought just great hope. On the front of the ship was this women Pomona, with a hand full of corn reaching out, and a promise of American freedom just months away.

It stated in the story that when the ship left Liverpool, many of the Irish were on the upper deck, and there was a fiddle and a piper performing a set of jigs. People were dancing and laughing and all the spirits were high. As the ship left Liverpool and many went below for sleep, a small wind became a full blown nightmare. The skipper of the Pomona operated off the wrong light and hit rocks, and then a sand bar off Wexford. The waves ened up taking the Pomona Clipper along with all, but three passengers.

After I left the museum I drove west toward the midlands of Ireland. At sunset I walked up to a hilltop and wrote this song. The song found it's way into me at the museum. It was like it had always been there somehow. It was important for me at last, to bring this song forward.

To the memory of the Pomona- Under the waves you are not forgotten!
Patrick Michael

Patrick is an amazing talented individual, from his singing, songwriting and beautiful paintings, that is just the least I have to say about him and his many talents and projects; check him out, I'm positive you'd come to the same conclusion!

With this, their sixth CD, Wicked Tinkers have confirmed their place as pioneers of the Tribal Celtic Music movement. Highland Pipes, pounding drums, didgeridoo and bronze-age Irish Horn are still here aplenty but on “Rant” they explore new territory with more adventurous arrangements, the Uilleann or Irish Pipes, new songs and friends (taken from the Rant CD cover).

Starts out with Dean’s Set…, precise clean and absolutely flawless… Pat Collin’s Fancy; a favorite of mine. I picture myself on a mountain top in Scotland looking over its beautiful land, thinking about the history of my ancestors and know that someday I will be on the mountain top taking it all in, preferably with a piper playing in the background…then it goes into some awesome dancing music, I can picture myself dancing around a huge outdoor fire celebrating harvest…The Curmudgeon, excellent…..and it just keeps getting better…My absolute all time favorite, Shenavallie Farm….just that one track alone is worth its weight in gold…great playing guys….not sure they can get any more tribal then that. The Hog…fun song….your smile will definitely will be pointing towards to the heavens on this one…..don’t miss listening to Smallpipe set……WOW!

Whether you are listening to the CD or seeing them live….the music is the same, OUTSTANDING….just more fun to actually see them live and participate.

I had the awesome opportunity to see this group at the 2009 Scotfest, Costa Mesa, California. The crowd loved them and I can see why – wonderful entertainers, the crowd participation was incredible.

CJ Henderson, the didgeridoo player is like no one I’ve ever heard or seen before…what he has accomplished is his own signature style and he does it incredibly well.; the drive to be the best definitely shows a thousand times ten….

Each and every member of the band is as special and gifted as the next, they love what they do and they do it extremely well!

The tribal sound and the banging drums, drew me closer with every single tune they played…they are fun, energetic, kilted and they ROCK…so play them LOUD!!! Word of advice; don’t EVER pass up the opportunity to see them live!!!! Awesome CD – highly recommended!

Happy Listening!!

Slainte,
Darlene

I’m not certain I could possibly say much more about this incredible band that hasn’t already been said by many; when asked; “what happens when you take Celtic, Spanish and Italian and mix it all up; you get the true nature of the Black Irish” ~ and boy, do you ever in this wonderful CD.

When you have a band together for as long as they’ve been together; “twenty-two years”~ that alone is a LOT of passion and commitment to what they love to do best, make MUSIC!...and they have a lot of fun doing it!

Every single band member is talented beyond belief; from the beginning note to the last, a huge smile did not leave my face; not to mention the foot stomping to every perfect tune; mostly traditional Irish songs; with the exception of one written by Patrick.. This CD is definitely one that’ll hold a firm place in your music library; I know it will in mine.

I loved each and every track; they were all played and sang to perfection; however, I do have a favorite; “The Wreck of The Pomona” ~ written and sung by Patrick Michael Karnahan. From its brilliant beginning, throughout the whole song, I was captivated by that tragic story that happened so long ago. Patrick shared with me that it was one of the first songs he wrote; he wrote it when he lived in Westport, Ireland, in the mid 1980’s; he had been hired to teach landscape painting to seniors; impressive and a man of many talents.

Do yourselves a huge favor; do whatever it takes to get your hands on this CD ~ you will not be sorry.

Enjoy!

VERY impressed; listened to most all of the tracks, this is a group I would love to see live on stage, in a pub or just about anywhere; suppose I'd have to travel to do so!

Thanks for the wonderful review, it may have taken me a while to get to it without taking the time to read it!

VERY well done!

Being a huge Pink Floyd fan; when I saw this CD “Celtic Pink Floyd, I said to myself…no way are they going to be able to pull this off; much to my surprise after listening just to the first track; I was ashamed that I had such a thought at all and it taught me a lesson that you should never judge anything before you hear, read, or see them live.

Every track on this CD is outstanding, since I first shared it with friends I’ve seen an abundance of comments from all types of people raving about how awesome it is. This CD is simply outstanding to say the least; if you do not have it, you certainly should; a definite plus for anyone’s music library.

Endless Time

Owen Diviney is probably one of the nicest, most caring and giving persons I have met in my personal journey into the music world of Ireland and Scotland and anything Celtic. He is a delight to know and I am so happy we met. After reading his bio, listening to his music and just basically getting to know him, I am positive you will agree.

I’ve had his permission to use a CD review from his site so I will include it with what I have to say since I could not have said it any better and my feelings about Owen and his music are identical to the review by Jamie O’Brien.

Since we met I have helped Owen to the best of my ability and have managed to get his CD heard on several radio stations here in the US; his music is requested and played on a regular basis and has hit the Top Ten Most Requested consistently.

His track “Isle of Hope and Tears” is my favorite as well as the video that accompanies it; although this track has been sung by many; Owen seems to put his own personal stamp on it and in watching the video I feel like I may be looking at the faces of some of Owen’s ancestors, and that may very well be. I can listen to it over and over and never tire of hearing it; I simply LOVE his version of this very sad but beautiful song.

“Twilight” is a story of Owens life; this is what he had to say; “You might have noticed, I have no video track up for Twilight. This track tells my own life story so I didn't put it up.”

Owen did inform me that he does have a DVD for Twilight and he has given me the great honor of sending it to me from Ireland recently and in great anticipation of its arrival so I can view it and see the story behind Twilight and Owen Diviney.

Owen recently told me; “I am not a professional musician and undertook this project to prove that we can all do positive things even in these very challenging economic times. I have enjoyed working with the charities and helping them to raise money. It's always satisfying to help people more needy than our selves.”

I have the highest respect for Owen, always will; he is an incredible human being and a talented singer and I so very much look forward to another album from Owen Diviney.

Irish Edition Newspaper, USA. - March 2011

Jamie O'Brien - Review of "Endless Time"

I like it when I get CDs from musicians who are new to me. Owen Diviney is one such performer. First, I play the album over and over: second, if I like the album, I'll start writing a review; third, I'll take a look at the accompanying promo release, the liner notes and the internet; and finally I'll return to my review and finish it. Thats what Im doing now.

Diviney does not have the strongest vocals, but he has something more important than that. He has a highly appealing tenor voice, which he uses to the full. He's selected 10 songs that fit him to a T and then allows the beauty and depth of the songs to come over.

Along with his own guitar playing are producer / arranger Eugene Kelly on piano, guitar and percussion. Brenda Curtin on fiddle, Gerry Mc Namara whistle and Tom Cussen banjo. Arrangements reflect a pensive mood; the album starts with Jimmy MacCarthys "Bright Blue Rose", Diviney's singing accompanied by gentle strings and a weaving slide guitar; "City of Chicago", the second track features a lovely brushed percussion to set the rolling sound, which is echoed and emphasized by the country-like fiddling and the subdued vocal accompaniment. Lovely!

So the album continues, presenting entertainment that is both moving and delicate. Songs like "Paddys Green Shamrock Shore", "Isle of Hope and Tears" and "Missing You" rub shoulders with originals by Diviney.

The name, Owen Diviney, might be familiar to some readers. The Galway man represented Ireland many times as a rower. Obviously, he has many talents.

Hope you all enjoy listening to his wonderful CD as much as I do! Enjoy!

Slainte,
Darlene

MEMORY was launched in 2011 to raise funds for Western Alzheimer’s. This CD features eleven original songs from some of Ireland’s best loved singer/songwriters including Thom Moore, Charlie McGettigan, Tony Reidy and Finbar Furey.

While listening, one could tell that a lot of thought, time, consideration and love for music went into the making of this album; it was impossible for me to select a favorite as they are all excellent listening.

Western Alzheimer’s is committed to work effectively to create awareness of the nature of Alzheimer’s Disease and its effect on families, to provide In-Home Respite Care and to provide and maintain homely facilities best suited for the Respite Care and Long Term Care of people suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease.

CD Line Up:

(1) Drumshanbo On Its Own…Thom Moore
(2) Sit You Down…Davey Arthur
(3) A Rough Shot Of Lipstick…Tony Reidy
(4) I Hope You Like It…Charlie McGettigan
(5) Walk The Long Road…Ger Wolfe
(6) No Farewells, No Goodbyes…Finbar Furey
(7) Katie Riordan…Eamon Ireland
(8) Worry Not…Liam O’Maonlai
(9) It’s So Easy…MacDara O’Consola
(10) The Stolen Child…Sean Tyrrell
(11) Matthew…Johnny McEvoy

It is an excellent album, hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Slainte,
Darlene

Skully embarks on a solo journey with the release of his new album ‘Irish Makeover’. Featuring guest appearances from some of Ireland’s finest young artists, such as Mick Flannery, Myles O’Reilly (Juno Falls), and Annette Buckley. Irish Makeover is an exciting new take on a beautiful collection of traditional Irish songs.

”these are songs that have been performed and sung for generations”, says Skully, “from the sean-nos singer beside a fire in an old thatched cottage to grand orchestrated versions, these songs have been passed down through the years”. ”When I set out on this project I was very much aware that we are all just guardians of this music until we too pass it on, so it was important to me that I retain the beauty and emotion of the songs while nudging them gently into the twenty first century”.

These are songs that we all know, songs that perhaps we wouldn’t seek out, but songs that are ever present, and Skully has taken them to somewhere that they haven’t been before now. This is traditional Ireland’s coming out party for the ipod generation. Irish Makeover is an awesome collection of traditional Irish songs performed by Skully of the group Metisse. What makes this CD so unique and exceptional is the strong electronic sounds of each and every song. This creates a powerful, enchanting and mystical realm as you listen to the surreal vocals and talented background melodies mixed to create pure perfection of Irish Traditional meets Electronicia.

Skully writes on his website, "And so two years ago I set to work creating Skully versions of these beautiful old Irish songs. Although very electronic (after all that is what I do!) I strove to maintain the powerful emotion that these timeless master pieces possess. The album was recorded at the beautiful Rushbrook Hotel in Cobh...We had great fun making it! I hope everyone supporting it here, has the same fun listening."

This was the first CD/Album Skully introduced me to and I started promoting when we first met online so it will always hold a special place in my heart; I love EVERYTHING about it!

I give 'Irish Makeover' my highest recommendation. If you like to dance and move to some of the hottest Celtic Irish Electronic music and vocals, then Irish Makeover is it!

Check out Irish Makeover here on Celtic Radio, don't be shy, request your favorites!
ENJOY!

Slainte,
Darlene
