Olorin:

Thanks for the update. I was just wondering how everything was yesterday. Agree with Jedibowers sentiment. Glad everything is going well in the New Year and that you are both strong enough to get through this.

Looking forward to more good news.

Thanks for your kind words everyone.

Ok, Surgery is this Monday and everything is a go so far. I'm glad to finally be at this point but can't help but be a little anxious about the surgery. I feel like everything is going to go great but you just can't help it really.

Please keep us in your thoughts as we go through what may be the toughest part of the battle, I'll update as soon as I can.

Olorin

Ok, surgery went exactly as planned and my wife is doing extremely well. They found a little more cancer in the lymph nodes under her arm so they took that group and both breasts as planned. She did so well after surgery that they let her go "home" the next day.

She is recovering well and has barely had to even take any pain pills, (just one at night so far to help her sleep better). She is still pretty weak and can't stand for great lengths of time but we were able to go out for dinner on Friday and celebrate a little.

Her post surgery follow-up appointment is this coming Wednesday and we hope to get the drains removed and have a radiation plan at that time. They sent the lymph nodes to be tested so I guess how many treatments she has to have will go by her test results.

I for one and ready for this to all be over, and I think we're over the hump and headed towards recovery.

Thanks again to you all for your support!!

Olorin (Chris)

McRoach 10-Feb-14

That is great news, I am gad they were able to find it all and that she is already recovering. Will continue to keep you both in my prayers!

QUOTE

SonofHenderson 10-Feb-14

I concur with McRoach, good that you've got your wife home with you now. It will take some of the strain from you both.

QUOTE

Olorin 14-Feb-14

Oh she's still in North Carolina, I guess I should have been more specific. They want her to do her radiation here where they can keep an eye on her so it's gonna be a couple more months at the very least.

QUOTE

SonofHenderson 14-Feb-14

Well I continue to pray for you both to have a strong recovery soon.

I had uploaded page 8 of this last night but It's not here now, I'm not sure what happened. Anyway, the surgery well so well it surprised everyone how fast she bounced back. Sadly one of the drains, (right side) had a mind of it's own and caused allot of problems that delayed her from starting her Radiation on time. I will always wonder if that delay let the remaining cancer cells spread to her bones like they did. I will always wonder if she had gotten to start her treatments on time if she would still be here, or if it would have just prolonged the entire thing. I know I can't live the rest of my days wondering what if, so it is what it is, but you can't help but wonder you know?

OK, my wife has a cellulites infection in her surgical wound that is spreading some. It's not really bad yet but they admitted her back into the hospital tonight to make sure it doesn't get out of control. Hopefully they can take care of it as she is scheduled to start radiation next Wednesday.

Also, since the tumor was so much bigger than they initially thought (still 11cm AFTER chemo) they have decided to do more chemo, (they still are confidant they got it all and are saying it's just precautionary). Apparently they are going to do the chemo and radiation at the same time, (maybe with just a chemo pill this go around).

I'll update if anything changes.

Chris

Hope all goes well with the treatments I continue to pray for your wife's recovery and your support of her.

QUOTE

She's still in the hospital but doing a little better. They drained the infected area and seem to have it under control, it's beginning to look better already (less red, etc.).

QUOTE

Olorin 05-Mar-14

I haven't updated in a bit and a few things have changed.

The infection wasn't Cellulitis, it is a Staph infection and she's taking some pretty strong antibiotics to try to clear it up. the infection found a weak area around her surgical site and a small hole has opened up there and is draining. This unfortunately has delayed the start of her radiation so we are a bit behind schedule for the moment. We are keeping it packed and covered and the infection is clearing up slowly, but the wound still exists and there is still drainage so I doubt they will start until at least that has healed.

She has a follow-up appointment next week with the radiation doctor, hopefully we can at least get a ballpark idea of when she can start.

More updates as they come.

Your wife and you are in my daily prayers.

A small update for today.

My wife went to the doctor yesterday and they seem to think the infection is clearing up and that she shouldn't need any more antibiotics. They feel the wound is doing well considering and that it is just healing slowly due to her weakened immune system.

Hopefully the good news will continue to follow.

Olorin.

Very glad to read that you've had better news.

QUOTE

Olorin 23-Mar-14

All is good so far. The infections is almost gone and her wound has almost healed. Radiation is to start on Tuesday.

So far so good!

QUOTE

SonofHenderson 25-Mar-14

Glad to read all is going well.

QUOTE

Olorin 29-Mar-14

Ok, she'll be getting her 5th treatment Saturday and so far no side effects. She's so homesick and is counting down the days till she can come home. So far she's doing great.

OK this covers the Staph infection she got from one of her drains not working properly. It delayed her getting the Radiation/Chemo by almost an entire month. So again, one can't help but wonder if this was enough time for some of the leftover cancer cells to move to the other places in her body where they wound up, but one never knows. They could have already have been there and too small to detect at the time as the cancer has spread to her Lymph system before the cancer was even caught to begin with.

*sigh* Just like the old cliché, hindsight is always 20 /20.

Thanks yet again to everyone for all your support.

I just heard some not so great news from a clan mate that has me troubled. I'm sure some thoughts and prayers their way would be well received too. Out of consideration for their privacy I'll leave it up to them to decide if they wish to talk about it here. Just know I'm deeply saddened by your news my friend and do hope things work out for you and yours.

I've been so caught up at home I forgot to update everyone.

My wife came home last Monday, her treatments are all over and she is doing fantastic! We go this coming Thursday for her first follow-up appointment and hope to get the all clear from her test results.

Next up, reconstruction.

Ok, the scare is over for now, (for this one anyway) the lump turned out to be Pus from a residual infection. They area treating it now and she goes back next week for a follow-up.

They are also checking her for uterine and Cervical cancers due to some blood in her urine and finding some Endometrial cells in her Pap smear. They don't think anything will come of either of them but we wont know for sure until some time this week. Fingers still crossed.

Looks like this is our life now, I do hope it gets better from here. She really deserves a break from all this madness.

Ok, my wife has had a persistent sore throat going on a month now. After several rounds of failed antibiotics they finally did a CT and have found a few areas they are concerned about. There's a couple of swollen lymph nodes in her neck, a spot on a her C5 neck vertebrae, (bone scan Thursday for that) and a spot in her chest that we're going to have biopsied tomorrow. At this point we don't know what's going on as she's had constant infections since coming home and this could all be built up infection, (she had staph earlier this year, persistent UTI's, etc.)

To put it lightly my wife is terrified and her faith is a little shaken. Me? I'm just numb and heartbroken to see my wife so worried and afraid.

I have nothing else at this point. I'll post here with updates when I can.

Page 6, seems odd to know that I only have 6 pages left to cover two years, it just doesn't seem like enough time.

This was a very bittersweet period for the entire family. She got to come home and was given a very enthusiastic prognosis for the future. We were so relieved for that to be over and were ready for the healing to begin so we could put all that behind us, sadly as has been the case through this entire journey, that was just quite never meant to be.
