I am looking to buy a copy of the song titled "Farewell My Green Valleys." The first line is: "The seagulls are calling, the wind is in the sails, and we're fast moving out to the sea..." I had this song by a female vocalist that I bought over a decade ago in Newfoundland. I never payed attention to the artist's name and the tape has long since disappeared. I had no idea how hard it would be to replace this song. I've been trying for a year now and haven't had any luck so far. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Falkren

This song was written by Glen Reid from Ontario, Canada and has been recorded by numerous artists including the Wolfe Tones, The Dublin City Ramblers, Tommy Makem and more. The song title will be listed in many different variations ("Farewell My Green Valleys", "My Green Valleys", "Green Valleys" to name a few). If I come across other information, I'll post it but I hope that this helps a bit.
The seagulls are calling, and the wind is in the sails,
And she's fast moving over the sea;
On a ship bound for St John three thousand miles away,
A human cargo my comrades and me.

Farewell my green valleys, God keep you the same,
If in only my mind you'll be;
I'm sailing dark water to far America,
Never more my green valley I'll see.

It hurts me to think of the things I left behind,
And the famine has blackened our land;
And to look now for something that I might never find,
Is a problem that now is at hand.

There's a fever a-raging, and the wind has died away,
And the journey can no longer be;
And the plague is a shadow that lingers night and day,
For more thoughts of green valleys I'll see.

Chorus Twice

Here are a few links that had it in their catalog. You will have to look through the songs list for the cd's but it is in there.....

I hope that helps a bit....
