I've listened to Celtic radio since before Christmas and I just love to hear all of it! I have a lot to learn so l drift in and out when I can.

I am located in the Kansas City area and very active in the Irish community. They are a beautiful bunch of people and I love em all! We are getting ready to get very busy with the St. Patrick's Day season and i am looking forward to all of the activity!

Thanks for being here and providing a learning outlet!

I think that it would be so nice to know more about my family's point of origin, but we're so far removed. And on the Irish side of the family - we're so few. On the German side, we're like cats - there are LOTS of us, which is nice enough.

Good luck in your search!

Chuck

Hi,
I am from the great white north of Canada and just found this site tonight while doing a search for Loreena McKinnet. Fell in love right away and had to register.
I will be telling a lot of poeple about this site.

Cheers

Goodness gracious, two Kansas Citians on the boards! I too found this station around Christmas but I've only been listening intently the past two or three weeks. The shoutcast page returned a few results for celtic music and I had to give the others a whirl but this one was the clear winner.

ChuckDenton, where abouts are ya at? I'm out in South KC now although I'll always call Independence home.

Oh and CelticRose, I believe ``A hundred thousand welcomes to you'' is ``Cead mile failte'' (Kay mee-la fall-sha at least that's what it sounded like to me)

Okay, I have to admit I'm a little confused by the tags and stuff when composing a post for this forum, but I'll give it a shot without any "fancies" first. . .

My Celtic Radio alias is Harpchick. The name is appropriate; I'm a harpist and singer who enjoys exploding musical stereotypes. I play a large Celtic harp, but I love mixing it up and playing everything from Bach to the Beatles (with Celtic, New Age, jazz, pop, and Broadway excursions along the way).

I am a former member of Blaq Lily (as in Arminta and Blaq Lily, whose CDs are enjoying a rotation on the station now) and a current member of Wild Mercy, whose CD will be submitted soon for rotation if I get my act together. wink.gif

I found Highlander Radio from the Blaq Lily webpage (just looking, in a moment of nostalgia and I-wonder-what-they're-up-to-now-ness) and immediately loved the mix of music, from trad to rock and every possible variation.

My biggest weakness is that I'm not great at the techie side of things. I'm fairly comfortable with the day-to-day stuff, but get puzzled sometimes (witness my confusion with the "tags" in composing this post!) by the stuff outside my normal box. Pretty funny for someone who loves venturing outside the box with harp and voice, I guess.

Also an avid reader, have a wonderful husband and three cats, like to knit and to do Hardanger embroidery (a form from Norway--my heritage is 100% Scandinavian--Norsk/Dansk). Guess that's plenty for now. At some point I guess I should plow through all the old posts and try to get to know all of you! smile.gif Right now I'm heading to bed.

Thank you for existing--this is a wonderful station and, I hope, a wonderful online community!

Harpchick

cowboy.gif G'day, folks. Just thought I'd kick off my participation with an intro' posting. My name's C... er... Kiwi Gael, and I absolutely love this site. I've passed thru this way several times before, and loved the look of it, and the great music, so I've decided to sign on up and have some fun on the forum.

I'm a dairy farm manager in New Zealand, I love the great outdoors (especially this time of year - Summer!), and I have a keen interest in things historic (I'm a History Channel addict). I have a seemingly unquenchable passion for Celtic/folky music and I have many, many, many fave artists. I dabble on the tin whistle, but drums are my stronger point - I'm certainly no pro', I just love to crank up the stereo and play along with the CDs. But I definitely wanna get into a local band in the near future.

Being of Scottish descent no doubt attributes to my strong attraction to the Celtic sounds. I'd love to someday get over to the land of my forebears, and really soak up the experience. I've been wanting to do a family history project for some time now, and it'd certainly enhance my trip to Scotland - to be able to really connect with the places where my heritage originates. I've actually not long been doing an audio-cassette and book Gaelic language course, and I'm really enjoying it. I think one of the Gaelic speakers on the tapes is Rory MacDonald from Runrig - what a great, great band !! thumbup.gif

Anyway, it's gettin' late down here, so I'd better go get some shut-eye yawn.gif
Catch up with you folks later...

Where now the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing?
Where is the helm and the hauberk, and the bright hair flowing?
Where is the hand on the harpstring, and the red fire glowing?
Where is the spring and the harvest and the tall corn growing?
They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind in the meadow
The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow
Who shall gather the smoke of the dead wood burning
Or behold the flowing years from the Sea returning?

Hi everyone! I'm Karen and brand new to this board. I love all kinds of Celtic music and I'm a big fan of Arthurian literature as well.

I hope to pick up some tips on new artists I haven't heard yet, and of course am willing to share what I know as well. I'm listening to the music stream as I write this.

One newbie question please: What do the "Levels" mean in profiles? The green (HP), blue (MP), and red (EXP) bars? Sorry for not knowing!

Bye for now,
Karen (Damosel)
