I heard on Highlander Radio the ballad of Tam Lin, it got my attention because of the beautiful scottish accent of the lad telling the story throughout the track, and also that it was performed by the Melbourne Scottish Fiddle Club (I know some of the members).

Well, what an interesting story and what a wonderful rendition, has anyone else heard this?

I was able to buy the CD from a local supplier of Scottish music, who are also organisers of Tasmanian Celtic events.

but I heard it first on Highlander Radio, what a fantastic, beautiful track!!

I love this song, for the beautiful scottish accent too. smile.gif. I would like to buy it cause I don't understand everything he says and the lyrics seems to be beautiful.

Unfortunately I can't find it here in France... sad.gif
Do you know if other artists are singing this song ?

I googled for the lyrics and was able to find several versions rather quickly..

I remember Child (wasn't there a Sir Frances Child? maybe the same) Seems like it was version 'I' that most closely matched that found here.

The basic story, however, is extremely common in Celtic folklore. being that of recovering someone who has been 'taken' by the fae.

There was a Tam Lin discussion in the forum earlier as Does Anyone Know the Lyrics to this Song? in which the lyrics are posted.

www.tam-lin.org Has just about every version known to man. Yes, it's a Child ballad; if I remember correctly the one used in the song in question is Tam Lin, Child Ballad 39A.

Which, coincidentally, is the one I'm using for my novel. Which could be going more slowly, but then the snails would get bored.

I found it legally avaliable on mp3.com, I think just before they closed their doors for a while. Dunno if it's still there or not now that they're re-opened.
