Support Your Local Pipe Band, Cast your vote for your favourite Band

We have been approached over the years to lend support to a number of organizations around the world. We have previously limited our support to local organizations (The Sons of Scotland Pipe Band, Irish Society of the National Capital Region, and numerous non-Celtic organizations). We are now offering help to one pipe band somewhere in the world. The pipe band with the most support votes will receive a pair of rings (value up to $700 Cdn), handmade by us, to use in a fundraising effort for the band. Everyone who casts a vote for a pipe band on our website will be in a draw for a sterling silver necklace. There will be three draws dates (May 1, July 1 and Sept 1.) for a necklace. If your vote is in before May 1, your name will be included in all three draws. If your vote is cast between May 1 and July 1, your name will be included in 2 draws.

The draw for the first necklace was held today. Liz Sargent of Akron, Ohio threw her support behind the Celtic Eagle Pipe Band on February 18, 2009. She will have her choice of one of 8 different necklaces handmade by us here in our workshop in Kanata, Ontario.

The first person drawn failed to respond by the deadline so a second name was drawn. Cathy Hart of Navarre, Ohio (supporting the Celtic Eagle Pipe Band) is now the winner of the first of three handmade sterling silver necklaces.

In addition, the winning bands will be announced. As you can see by the statistics below, unless a major campaign is launched, first place is virtually a done deal. There is still a battle for the second place position so we'll see what happens in the next month.

We are aiming to start the next contest, which will be similar to this one, in October or November. The next contest will be benefitting Celtic organizations around the world. Announcements will be made when this one starts.

In my last post, I stated that unless a major campaign is launched, first place is virtually a done deal. The Celtic Eagle Pipe Band does still have a commanding lead on that first spot but a campaign has been launched by the Evansville Firefighters Pipe and Drum Corps. They have moved into fourth position and have now joined the battle for second place.

We are pleased to announce….

The winning pipe band, with 507 votes, is the Evansville Firefighters Pipe & Drum Corps of Evansville, Indiana (www.efpipedrum.com). For their efforts, they will receive certificates for two sterling silver rings with 14k gold raised borders to be used in any fund raising effort chosen by the band. The value of these rings is $300 to $350 each for a total of $600 to $700 CAD (approximately $550 to $640 US).

In second place, after holding a commanding lead for most of the contest, is the Celtic Eagle Pipe Band of Akron, Ohio (www.celticeaglepb.com) with 384 votes. For their efforts, we have decided to add to the second place prize and reward them with two certificates for sterling silver rings with 14k gold raised borders as well instead of just one.

We trust that the winning pipe bands will benefit from these donations and thank all participating bands and voters for their support. We hope that all who voted continue to support their local pipe bands in the future.

May 8, 2009 - The winner of the first necklace was Cathy Hart of Navarre, Ohio. Her vote was in support of the Celtic Eagle Pipe Band.
July 1, 2009 - The winner of the second necklace was Bonnie Gordon of Wellington, Ohio. Her vote also was cast in support of the Celtic Eagle Pipe Band.
September 1, 2009 - The winner of the final necklace draw is Cindy Lindsay of Fergus, Ontario. Her vote was cast on April 7, 2009 in support of the Fergus Pipe Band. Congratulations!!

We are aiming at a start date of November 1 but that will depend on how fast we complete our link section.
