Do you fold them? Match them up? Throw them all in the drawer and hunt for the mate later? Match up and fold one onto the other? Match up and put in Ziploc bag to keep ready and water proof? Ask Dr Phil which sock WANTS to be mated to the other? Do your lowly gym socks have a lower drawer than your high and mighty dress socks? Do you throw out the mate if one gets a hole??? Do you drink with your socks when you are alone? |

Peckary, methinks you are revealing somewhat of yourself in these questions, and, I have to say, that what I see is just a wee bit scary!!! |
Posted by: Irish Stepper 29-Jan-2004, 12:48 PM |
I think it's time to go to the doctor for a check up and a change in your meds...and I'm not talking about the insulin either. |
Posted by: peckery 29-Jan-2004, 01:19 PM |
What ?!? |
Posted by: Irish Stepper 29-Jan-2004, 01:38 PM |
But that's ok peckery...we still luv ya anyway. |
Posted by: gaberlunzie 29-Jan-2004, 02:10 PM |
Such a strong affinity to socks...I'm seriously concerned, peckery... But I second Irish Stepper - we love you anyway!! |

Posted by: kidclaymore 29-Jan-2004, 04:33 PM |
Peckery, does your socks talk to you, if so,I think we need to talk to Raven and see if he will give you some of his meds. But like Irish stepper said "we still luv ya anyway" |

Posted by: Raven 30-Jan-2004, 09:14 AM |

Y'all are going to think I'm nuts but I safety pin my socks together. I got the idea from my father-in-law. You see, now I never have mis-matched socks. So the Sock Monster no longer has his grip over our dryer!!

Todd

Better living through chemistry! |

Personally, I think this should be in the men's issues thread since it is starting to get sort of personal. Anyway, I have the little woman or the hired help just tie the two together. As far as throwing one away, how come? Leo |
Posted by: peckery 30-Jan-2004, 10:59 AM
Socks are like swans, they mate for life. Nothing is sadder than a drawer full of lonely, crying socks. The sound used to keep me up at night. This way, the lonely socks go to the great loom in the sky and I get my sleep. |
Posted by: Herrerano 30-Jan-2004, 11:51 AM |
I usually use them for cleaning things or something. I once used one to apply barbecue sauce to a roasting chicken, and it was then I made the discovery that other people considered that offensive. Go figure. Leo |
Posted by: JaneyMae 30-Jan-2004, 11:52 AM |
I have my my pet monkey find the mates for my husbands sock and put them in his drawers. I put my own away. |
Posted by: tsargent62 30-Jan-2004, 12:03 PM |
Has your husband always kept his socks in his drawers? |
Posted by: Jaxom 30-Jan-2004, 12:19 PM |
Peckery, is it just socks or do feet interest you as well? Perhaps you could get a job as a shoe salesman. |
Posted by: peckery 30-Jan-2004, 01:50 PM
I just think socks are facinating. Clothes for the toes. Have you ever seen the socks that are like gloves? A compartment for each toe! The Egyptians used to fashion their socks out of reeds found along the Nile River. This was going on 5000 years ago! Two professional baseball teams are named after socks. A roll of quarters in a sock make a leathal weapon. Whats not to like? |

Is there a doctor in the house this man needs some help. lol:lol: Meds, Meds who's got the Meds |
Posted by: maggiemahone1 30-Jan-2004, 06:45 PM |
you didn't mention peckery, how many of you guys leave your socks lying on the floor after taking them off! My hubby can never find a pair of socks to wear, cause his socks are all over the house. grumble, grumble, complain, huh men! maggiemahone1 |
Posted by: Kiwi Gael 30-Jan-2004, 07:53 PM
Guilty... ... but only some times. I like to run a tidy ship down here, so they usually get tossed straight into the wash, and then thrown neatly into the cupboard. |
Posted by: kidclaymore 30-Jan-2004, 07:53 PM |
Guilty as charged. |
Posted by: Kassia 30-Jan-2004, 11:15 PM
multiply that by three and you have my house. I think that my guys think that their sox are butterflies and that they must be set free to find their own way------all over the house, under tables and sofas, in the corners of rooms, scurrying across the floors...I think I could throw away a trashbag full of unmatched that wouldnt even be missed. |
Posted by: Richard Bercot 30-Jan-2004, 11:21 PM
First of all, I roll my socks, as mates. Second, I leave mine on the floor at night when I go to bed because I use them as a rug during the winter time. Next morning I throw them in the basket. But I cannot believe, no one has mentioned what kind of sock do they wear. Me, I prefer wool crew socks. I am not a big fan of cottons, being an outdoorsman you learn one thing about cottons, Cottons Kills. |

Posted by: Herrerano 31-Jan-2004, 08:18 AM |
My darling little wifey absolutely forbids that my socks get tossed in with the rest of the wash. She says they will contaminate the rest of the laundry. So I have to throw them on the floor in the terraza behind the house, the dog takes over from there for the necessary pretreatment. When he finishes with them they get washed, well, if anything is left. Leo |

I will take wools and silks any day. However, cottons are good for rags and Q-Tips. |

I remember wearing those Red Heel Socks, but I have not seen them around lately. If memory serves me right, the tops always seem to fall down around my ankles and I really find that annoying. |

He has always found that the keeping the socks in the drawers makes them easier to find and then they are always....um.....warm on his cold piggies. Also, the monkey can't steel them away too far. |

What a wonderful question! How truly revealing the insight into one's character if the question were properly answered. Two cases in point: My friend Kate who before marriage not only properly matched her socks, but also arranged them in order of color by the spectrums of the rainbow. It was a truly magnificent feat of organization. However her ability to stay this focussed on the important things like whether lavender should come before violet went out the window with her first child. Many are the sacrifices that parenting forces on us, sigh... And then there's myself. I put my socks into two boxes under my bed, white and colored. I match them in the morning. This sames me many hours of labor and the otherwise unavoidable worry about what happened to them between the wash and the rinse cycle or if all that lint in the dryer is what is left of a missing sock. However, it can create problems. There are literally hundreds, maybe thousands, of types of white gym socks. And although I try my best to only buy one type, often my white sock box is filled to the brim with socks that are completely unique because of ribbing, length, logo, or degree of not-white. Also the morning is not the best time to determine if two colored socks match. I once met a client at a newly built home which was surrounded by mud. To protect the floors we took off our shoes. This is when I discovered I was wearing one blue sock and one black sock. I don't think it damaged my reputation too greatly... Anyways, great topic! |

I treat my socks with tender gentle care. That way the other one won't run off and leave me stranded. Sock world, this is a special area of discussion. I wash them in very hot water. That way it takes the kinks out of the heel after a long day at work. Then I add bleach to whiten them. Yes, in 7 days you can have whiter socks with Bleachstrips. Then I airdry them so they won't pull and pucker. They have that just laundry look to them. And the April Fresh smell, just in case any of my dearest friends want to smell my socks. Then I roll them up and put them neatly into my sock drawer. Unfortunetly, I live in a sock segregated house. My dark socks go on the right and the white ones go to the far left and the colors go in the middle in case I need to get a pair of socks out in the dark I can always find the right color. I know what you are thinking. A, this is the 21st century. I have been tempted to mix all of my socks together not to care which color is where, but how will I find them in the dark? Now I want you to know all of my socks get the same attention and care in washing. There are no favorites in there. Ooops, I forgot. My gold toe socks from JC Penny's I treasure. So they probably do get special attention. But all of my socks are equal opportunity. I wear each of them sometimes on the left foot and at other times on the right foot. No favoritisum from me. No sir- ree! Special Notice: Special Notice: I am not responsible for any and all laughter you may be enjoying right now. Posted by: Annabelle 11-Feb-2004, 08:21 AM |
Peckery, think of it as a jacuzi hot tub for socks ok? Now the real question is do the socks bathe naked? That's the real question. Pick up your next issue of the "National Enquiring" magazine when you are in a line behind 50 people at the grocery store. Annabelle |

Hey Sis, I thought Mom taught you better when it come to sorting socks in the drawers. Colored Socks go to the Left because they are seldom used. White Socks go in the middle Wool Socks go to the Right because in the early morning when the lights are out, you open the drawer with your left hand and reach in with your right. Making it easier to grab the wools. |
Posted by: peckery 12-Feb-2004, 11:52 AM
What are the dimentions of described drawer??? Are there physical dividers??? What type of lining in bottom of drawer???? |
Posted by: peckery 12-Feb-2004, 11:56 AM
Well what do you think???? |
Posted by: Richard Bercot 12-Feb-2004, 02:00 PM
My Socks are allowed to interact with other Socks. They just all stay pretty well where they are at. As far as lining for the bottom of the drawer, there is none. They just like to rough it. Now my Sock Drawer is 29" x 14" x 6", and the entire Drawer is dedicated to them only. My Socks are very dear to me. |
Posted by: Raven 12-Feb-2004, 02:06 PM |
I wear my socks on my hands given My guitar playing skills it seems to help,,,, although it does tend to make keyboard usage tedious at times |
Posted by: Annabelle 12-Feb-2004, 03:28 PM |
But Peckery and Richard I'm left handed so that's the reason for my sock order. I hear the socks are wanting wine when they are in the hot tub! Annabelle |
Posted by: Richard Bercot 12-Feb-2004, 03:57 PM
I'd wine too if I were stuck in a Hot Tub. |

Goodness Gracious I am showing my TV knowledge. Not that I lived it or anything. "Sock it to me" was from Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In back in the 70's. Goldie Hawn was a dancer on the show and did comedy sets during the series. Alot of new stars were on there and became bigger stars from the expoure of that show. It was based in a flower power set and eveything was "peace" signs all over the place. The old lady played by Ruth Buzzy and I can't remember who played the old man and he would come out acting like a dirty old man and say "sock it to me" and she would take her purse and hit him. A |
Posted by: JaneyMae 13-Feb-2004, 10:40 AM |
Would not have missed an episode of Laugh In for anything!! Still love the occassional rerun. That was Goldie Hawns start. Funniest thing on the tube!! |
Posted by: Annabelle 13-Feb-2004, 10:51 AM |
My favorite part on Laughin was the Dirty ole Man. Who can remember who played that part? It wasn't Tim Conway. Wore glasses. Does anyone remember ? Hormone-hymer's! My long term memory isn't here today. A |
Posted by: tsargent62 13-Feb-2004, 11:31 AM |
I keep wanting to say his first name was Marty. Can't remember the last name. He's the same guy who always played the German soldier, too. |
Posted by: peckery 13-Feb-2004, 12:06 PM
His name was Arty Johnson. |
Posted by: Richard Bercot 13-Feb-2004, 12:11 PM
I do remember "Laugh In" and Peckery, I believe you are right about Arty Johnson. |
Posted by: peckery 13-Feb-2004, 05:09 PM |
Don't airports get socked in??? Use a wind sock. Funny how aviation and socks are linked. Remember the Hindensock catching fire while attempting to land in Jersey???? |
Posted by: kidclaymore 13-Feb-2004, 07:00 PM |
It was Arty Johnson. I use to watch every show. The best shows though was in 1968 and 1969, It went off the air in early 1970. now I'm telling my age, so sock it to me. |

Just got a new sock table at home and having another delivered here at the cabin tomorrow. Foun my old book, Willie Sockconi on Socket Billiards. Has some great sock-trick shots in it. Can hardly wait! Have my sock stick all chaulked and even get a new set of sock balls. WooHoo!! |
Posted by: Richard Bercot 15-Feb-2004, 01:34 PM
What are your sock balls made of? Wool, Cotton, Silk or some kind of Polyester? Which one banks the best off of the cushions? Does it have Fish Net Stockings for the Pockets? |
Posted by: JaneyMae 15-Feb-2004, 02:18 PM
I find that the cotton sock balls roll best on the felt. Silk is nice but a bit spendy. I did order the fishnet for the pockets! How did you know? |
Posted by: Richard Bercot 15-Feb-2004, 03:08 PM
I really didn't know but that is what I would have bought. |

Silly! That's what Artie Johnson used to say when he was the little German guy on Laugh-In. "Very funny.... but stupid" |
Posted by: tsargent62 16-Feb-2004, 12:58 PM |
Silly? Me? Na! I only vaguely remember watching Laugh In. I remember Artie Johnson pretty well, but not the details of what he said. I'm surprised you remember that kind of stuff. You're only 2 months older than me (I peeked!). |
Posted by: Elspeth 16-Feb-2004, 01:30 PM |
Thinking back I am suprised as well that I was allowed to watch Laugh-In. But that's the way it is when you have older siblings. So, another alumnus of the class of 80? Now I know what the 62 stands for. |
Posted by: tsargent62 16-Feb-2004, 01:44 PM |
Yep. You do realize that the ppl who were born the year we graduated from high school are graduating from college this year, right? I have socks older than them! (Not really, but it fits with the spirit of the forum ) |
Posted by: Richard Bercot 16-Feb-2004, 04:46 PM |
I still have my dress shoes from 1974. I do try to avoid wearing them. Socks on the other hand are only 15 years old. |

The Picture was taken outside a brewery/restaurant located in the Tahquamenon Falls State Park in the upper peninsula of Michigan. Not far from Whitefish Point where the freighter the Edmund Fitzgerald sank in November 1975 (Gordon Lightfoot sang about it). The closest town to the falls is Paradise Michigan. This is one of my favorite destinations in Michigan. gettin-away |

Posted by: 3Ravens 24-Feb-2004, 11:04 PM |
This is the song that never ends.... |
Posted by: Annabelle 24-Feb-2004, 11:06 PM |

Posted by: JaneyMae 25-Feb-2004, 09:03 AM |
CelticRadio convention is a grand idea! I'll be second at the bar since Annabelle beat me there. She has to start the singing with mike in hand!! |
Posted by: JaneyMae 28-Feb-2004, 03:08 PM |
Geez, I leave for a few days and ya'll let this thread go to the socks! What the sock is up with that? I'm simply assockstounded. |

Posted by: JaneyMae 29-Feb-2004, 12:33 PM |

Get the poor man a spoon so he could sock it up. |
Posted by: kidclaymore 01-Mar-2004, 03:13 PM
Janeymae, its winter time the zoo is not open yet, you will have to wait awhile. |
Posted by: Annabelle 01-Mar-2004, 04:34 PM |
Thorazine is a bit harsh don't ya think? We could give him some good ole Diametab grape flavored and knock his socks off? Annabelle |
Posted by: Annabelle 01-Mar-2004, 04:37 PM |
Annabelle's soft warm..... Hey sis, I told ya I had a crush on him. It was just animal magnatisium. I asked big mouth not to put our native picture on here but he had to do it....and of coarse it was love at first screech.... A |
Posted by: maisky 02-Mar-2004, 09:54 AM |
The really scary part is that Peckery makes more sense when he takes his "medicine coctail" than when he is sober..... |
Posted by: tsargent62 02-Mar-2004, 11:43 AM
That's because he doesn't take medicine cocktails. Sock monkeys take medicine socktails. |
Posted by: maisky 02-Mar-2004, 11:44 AM
Good Point, Sir!!! |
Posted by: Richard Bercot 02-Mar-2004, 12:08 PM |
What do you use to stir a Socktail? |
Posted by: tsargent62 02-Mar-2004, 12:16 PM
A swizzle sock, of course! |
Posted by: Richard Bercot 02-Mar-2004, 12:20 PM
Duhhh!!! The Part Timers Disease must be kicking in again. Maybe I need one of those Medical Socktails? |
Posted by: MDF3530 02-Mar-2004, 04:03 PM |
<----could go for a sock of beer right now ... |
Posted by: Annabelle 02-Mar-2004, 07:05 PM |
Why don't I just mix you guys up a GI cocktail? |
Posted by: Richard Bercot 02-Mar-2004, 07:13 PM
By you having Nurses Training, I not quite sure how to take that. I have had GI Cocktails that I really did not care for. |
Posted by: Annabelle 02-Mar-2004, 07:41 PM |
Hello little brother! So you want me to mix you up one? |
Posted by: maisky 02-Mar-2004, 09:01 PM |
Maybe she just wants to play "sock doctor"...... |
Posted by: Richard Bercot 02-Mar-2004, 10:34 PM
Sis, when you start talking like that, I know you forgot your Meds. Sis E and Sis 3, who has Annabelle's Meds? To tell you the truth, I wouldn't put it past Maisky to put her up to this again. |
Posted by: tsargent62 03-Mar-2004, 08:18 AM
Annabelle, play nice! |
