One more dumb question:

I changed the settings on my old email account in my PC's email software to reflect the new email address and added it back to the list so the email app will check for and download any new email. There is one issue that has appeared. When the App tries to connect to the celticradio.net server I get this error popup:

"The server you are connected to is using a security certificate that could not be verified.

A certificate chain processed, but terminated in a root certificate which is not trusted by the trust provider.

Do you want to continue using this server?"

If I click "Yes" then the connection proceeds.

Is that a problem at the server end or is it probably at my end? huh.gif

It could be, we are using just a locally signed certificate we did not purchase its own certificate so you might get a message that you should not trust - which you can if you do trust us! biggrin.gif

I couldn't find a way to trust the certificate (I'm using the old Windows 7 live mail app) so I just changed the port to the non SSL port number and that seemed to work.

Hey MacEoghainn,

Unfortunately, we discontinued CelticRadio.us several years ago. If it is still showing in your Dashboard, try clicking on the DELETE button at the button of the page and selecting a new email address.

Also, when you login be sure to use your full email address as the login name.

OK, I'm good to go. I'm now [email protected]. biggrin.gif

Thanks!!

Something's changed. I can't connect to the server and where I used to just put in my user name, it wants my email address and doesn't recognize it sad.gif

Edited to add:  I think it's recognizing me now, but it still says Can't Connect to Server sad.gif

I'm seeing similar issues to WallaceGal's.

If I attempt to login using my old @celticradio.us address I get a "Domain is not allowed" error. If I attempt to login with just my Celtic Radio screen name I get a "Can't connect to server" error.

My Dashboard requested I change my email password (which I did) and that didn't help either. sad.gif sad.gif huh.gif

What is interesting when looking at ethnic background is that one of your siblings will probably have test results with a completely different mix (unless it's your identical twin).

Everyone should take a look at this article about the 4 Swayne sisters:

It's been a while since I posted anything in this thread, so I'll do rundown of what I've been doing DNA wise since.

I do all my testing through Family Tree DNA (https://www.familytreedna.com Family Tree DNA). I've done their, in addition to my original Y-DNA (male line) testing to 37 markers, Family Finder(Similar to Ancestry's standard testing), mtDNA (female line), and I've upgraded the Y-DNA to the BigY-700 and the mtDNA to "Plus".

Here is my ethnic breakdown (compares to Robert's Ancestry results):

Scandinavia 57% (those Vikings got around)
British Isles 17%
East Europe 9%
Southeast Europe 6%
Middle Eastern 8%
Asia Minor 8%
Trace Results
East Middle East <1%
North Africa <2%

Y-DNA

The Ewing Family Association (the US part of Clan Ewing, Clan Ewing is now a recognized Scottish Clan by the Lord Lyon Court, evidence indicates the Ewings to be the core family and descendants of Ewen of Otter and of Clan MacEwen) has been conducting a DNA study and the most progress on getting a picture of the Clan's/Family's Male ancestry back to the Ulster Plantation in Northern Ireland and Scotland is with the use of the BigY-700 testing.

My Big Y results appear to prove my paper trail back to a James Ewing (born Bet. 1650–1665 in Scotland or Ireland) of Inch Island, County Donegal, Ulster, Ireland and my Gaelic male line ancestry.

My Confirmed Haplogroup is R-BY18238 (a branch of the larger R-M222 Haplogroup, a subgroup of the even larger R-M269. R-M222 is present in over 12% of the population in Ireland (and in Scotland). Some believe this high frequency is due to a connection with the Uí Néill and Connachta dynasties, or migrations such as the Plantation of Ulster.

Clan Ewing/Ewen/MacEwen founder, Ewen of Otter, according to traditional genealogies was a descendant of an Irish prince of the O'Neill dynasty named Ánrothán Ua Néill, who left Ireland for Kintyre in the 11th century.

mtDNA

mtDNA is pretty much a dead end as far as genealogical research goes. It mutates so slowly that all it really does is give you an idea of where the female line originated. My mtDNA result is L3f1b

There is a group of researchers that believe much of the European L3F population descends from the migration of the Ashkenazi Jews who coalesced in the Holy Roman Empire around the end of the first millennium.

Can anyone translate this line from the chorus of Fear a' Bhàta

"Fhir a' bhàta, na hóro eile"

I know the first part is "Oh my boatman" but I can find no website that can translate the "na hóro eile"

Apparently blank "from" blocks can do the same thing.

A similar rule can be created by selecting "Where the From line contains people" instead of "Where the Subject line contains specific words".

I suggest adding all of the alphabet and numbers 0-9 and then change the options to "does not contain..." (just as you did with the subject in the rule described in the previous post)

Everything I read online said the "@" symbol was all you need but that wouldn't work in Windows Live mail (apparently had something to do with the from line in the header info containing the senders name and then the actual email address inclosed in "<>")

PS: you have to add each letter and number separately in both rules. Don't enter all of them all at once in the "add" box and click add!

Apparently a number of spammers have figured out that sending emails with nothing in the "Subject" box/line will confuse many email program's filtering (especially anything from Microsoft, can't say for sure on Thunderbird or other 3rd party software). But there is a way around this.

You can create a mail rule that will send any email with no Subject to a junk or deleted folder. Here's how:

An Outlook Rule for Messages with No Subject

This should work in Outlook Express, Outlook, and Windows Live Mail.

PS: in addition to all the vowels you may want to add "f" or "fw" for those occasions someone forwards you an email without anything else other than FW in the subject box/line.

What many of the Yes faction here in the US forgot (or never knew) was this gem by Thomas Jefferson in our own Declaration of Independence:

"Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed."

I just received my Jennifer Licko CD I won in the Monthly CD Contest (Thanks Paul and Jennifer!! smile.gif ) and I had to comment on what a lovely voice she has. I'm now torn between her and Karen Matheson for my favorite female singers of Gaelic language songs.

There's still one free CD left for the July contest CD Contest

MaterDea "A Rose for Egeria"

I'd describe the music as Rick Wakefield goes Heavy Metal

Here's a song from the CD:

QUOTE (MacFive @ 22-Apr-2014, 02:30 PM)
I really think the world is a much scarier place then it was say 20-30 years ago. True we always had the threat of assured mutual destruction from a Global Nuclear war, but atleast each side understood each other and the cost of war would have been far to great. (USSR vs US)

Now we have little wars popping up everywhere and nationalism is on the rise. Putin's goal is to retake as much of the lost territory from the old Soviet Union and he will use any means necessary.

And what is really stopping him? I don't think anyone would risk a war, but wasn't appeasement part of the problem in Hitler's rise?

While I'm sure that most people who consider themselves to be Ukrainian would disagree, there hasn't ever been a country called Ukraine, and anything even resembling an independent country of any name since at least 1300 AD. So this issue has been going on from before there even was a United States.

When the Soviet Union disintegrated there were "Republics" created by the Communists that became "nations" with no consideration given to who the native populations were made up of. Prior to that in 1654 the Ukraine basically became an Imperial Russian province with the signing of the Treaty of Pereyaslav, and in the mid 1700s, Peter the Great put an end to local Ukrainian rule. Imperial Russia annexed Crimean in 1783.

If anyone here recalls Lord Tennyson's poem, "The Charge of the Light Brigade", about the Battle of Balaclava (fought in the Ukraine in 1854) during the Crimean War between Imperial Russia on one side and the British, French, Austria, and Ottoman Empire on the other you can see one of many examples of how long this area of the world has been in turmoil.

Memory serves you very well. I was indeed working on that. It took an entire year to process but I do now have Irish citizenship AND an Irish passport. Makes being able to work in Ireland (or anywhere in the EU for that matter) all that much easier.

Now you need to work on sounding Irish. I found this: SoYouWanna speak with an Irish accent?

It's been quite some time since I've visited CelticRadio.net, but I've been in the mood to listen to Celtic music lately, so I tuned in today. I've just signed up for a premium account to help support this great site.

Part of my desire to listen to the music comes from the fact that I'm currently trying to get a job in Ireland. At the beginning of December, I lost my job for the second time in 2013. For years I've wanted to move to Ireland or somewhere in the UK. I figured now might be the time to do that. I've had a few interviews via phone or Skype, and I have one promising lead for a job in Dublin right now. I can tell you that the Irish seem to be in no hurry when it come to hiring for positions, as I've been working on this one job for almost two months now.

Anyway, I live in Wake Forest NC. As as the title says, I've been a member for quite some time, but have not been active in quite some time as well. It's good to see some of the old familiar "faces" still around. I may not be that active on the forums, but I'll certainly be listening.

Thanks Paul for still providing this great service!

Brian

If memory serves you were working on obtaining dual citizenship/Irish passport. Did you ever succeed in that effort?
