Wizard of owls where are you when I need you? Christian Celtic group, Ceili Rain, played today on Highlander radio! Have you heard them here? Have you heard them before?

They are wonderful and I have one of their CDs. My favorite song of theirs is "In the Back of a Black Cadilac." So classic and true! Funny song too!

I have one of their CD's, and I've heard them live! tongue.gif

They used to play here in Nashville on a regular basis. Piper Hunter Lee was an acquaintance of mine from my days in Jackson, MS. (Just found out he passed away a while back. God rest you, Hunter.) Rick Cua (a fine Christian artist in his own right) was the bassist. Cactus Moser (from the group Highway 101) was the drummer. I believe Buddy Connoly was on accordian. I don't remember the rest of the group.

Odd that Cactus Moser doesn't appear on the group's website. Maybe he was only with them for a few gigs. Anyway, one performance I remember started with Cactus and Hunter marching in from the back of the club (pipes and drums, gotta love it!), taking the stage and kicking into the set. Awesome!

Favorite songs:

Love Travels
Peace Has Broken Out
That's All The Lumber
666 Degrees

I have their "Erasers on Pencils" cd. It is fun, upbeat. Kinda reminds me of great Big Sea, but with a message. I play their cd all the time at school when my kids are working on art projects or during class parties. They love it and it has a positive message without being overtly Christian. Beats Eminem and Brittany anyday!

Christian Celtic group, Ceili Rain,

I never realized they were considered Christian Celtic. Hmm.

I also have their first album, Ceili Rain. I haven't listened to it in some time, though. Maybe I'll pull it out later tonight and give it another listen. smile.gif

laugh.gif Brian, I have their first CD only, but I pulled mine out last night and played it. I crack up everytime I hear "Long Black Cadillac." laugh.gif

Well when I bought their CD, they were classified under Celtic Christian and I would say that they are.

Yes, I've seen them several times, although it's been quite a while. I have no idea what the current lineup sounds like live, although from the few times I met bandleader Bob Haligan, Jr., I'd have to say that he's not going to put anything but a first-rate, kick-butt-and-take-names show on stage. The times I saw them here in Nashville were an experience, not just for the music, but also for the energy that could be felt pouring from the stage.

I didn't know Hunter had passed away until I saw it on their website just a couple of days ago. I hadn't seen him for years. He was something of a weird duck, but we always got along. He was defintely his own man, and a free spirit. He was also a first-class piper, and the first person I ever saw doing circular breathing. It was strange to watch him practice with a chanter and play a three minute song without stopping to breathe! Although we weren't close, I feel a sense of loss at his passing.

Very interesting, gtrplr! Thanks for sharing your experiences with the band.

New Cd is being released on Novemeber 10th. "Whatever Makes You Dance" is the title. There are a few videos on the website now. Maybe Macfive could post some. A few samples from the new album on a myspace site and they are all great. "Kneeling" is the all around fav but I rather enjoy "Shut Up and Pray" which really makes you want to dance. An old song from the CD Say Kay-lee called PEACE HAS BROKEN OUT was selected as an honorable mention in the first ever-PeaceDriven Songwriting Award event sponsored by PeaceDriven.com. This international contest was searching for a song that shows the most drive for peace. Be it drive for peace in the world, peace in your home or school, or inner peace. The organization received over 500 entries. If you haven't heard this band I suggest the anthology CD. Covers most of the bands hits but leaves out my personal favorite "Life is a Polka"

The new CD "I Made Lemonade" is out now. I haven't looked for any videos yet . The new CD is not as celtic as the others but it is still very upbeat and would probably be a nice break from all the MJ music being played nowadays.
Website is still the same link as the one I posted above.

new CD out titled "Manuka Honey" Songs included on this cd are:
• Sweetest I've Seen • Never Once Thought Twice • Married and Buried • The Cup • Can't Love Without It • This Is The Moment • Make A Road • Babysitter • You're Better Than This • A-D-O-P-TION • Never Crossed My Heart • How The Light Gets In • Love Isn't Thru With Me Yet • Make A Road (Instrumental) There are audio samples available. Judging from the samples Ceili Rain is still continuing with more of a pop sound althougth there are bits of celtic here and there. Mind you I'm just juging this from the sound samples. All the songs do sound great and there seems to be some real substance to them. I wuld really like to listen to the whole thing but I'm just not able to at this point. Perhaps there is another Ceili Rain fan out there who can give this CD a more listened too review.
