Is anyone here going to the Ohio Scottish Games in Oberlin, OH, on June 26, 2004? If you hadn't planned to, I would love it if as many of as possible would. For a few of you, Richard and Elspeth anyway, it's relatively local. Here a link to their web site: Ohio Scottish Games

Normal is a relative term. For some reason it is not a term my relatives use to describe me.

I had planned on it. But, we got a show for a local street festival! So, I will have to miss it. But, cool thing is, that we are the only non mainstream group playing this festival! So that in itself makes up for it!

Some men are drawn to oceans, they cannot breathe unless the air is scented with a salty mist. Others are drawn to land that is flat, and the air is sullen and is leaden as August. My people were drawn to mountains- Earl Hamner Jr.
We've had info on this event for the last three years, but we've always got something going on that weekend. This year a family reunion in PA. So, unfortuantely, I can't go. That would have been cool. I'm still working on the one in Ligoneer.
Are you definately going Todd? I forgot, do you still play in a pipe and drum band?

Balisodare, The only other one I know in the area is the St. Andrew's Highland Games in Livonia, MI. My band is the host band, so I have to be there! The web site: http://www.highlandgames.com/
Bummer! I wish I could go. As it is we have the reunion, a state baseball tournament and an Indian Princess camp out on Aeros Field that day. What a popular weekend!

In Cincinnati, Ohio they have the Celtic music and cultural festival. This event happens usually the end of September. I will get the dates.
They have highland events. rugby games, crafts, food, and music.
I have seen Cherish the Ladies, The Tannahill Weaver's, Members of the Battlefield Band, and numerous other to mention. It's a good time, it is right on the riverfront, on the east side of Cincinnati. There are hotels with in 10 mins of the event. If anyone is interested, let me know. I will post more info then.

BTW... Is it a nice venue? I've never been there.
I'm not sure about the venue. They changed it this year. It used to be on the campus of Oberlin College, which was a decent venue. Being at the fair grounds there's no telling. I've seen some fair grounds that are nice, like the one in my home town, or some with no trees for shade and lots of dust. We'll have to wait and see.

Any other Highland Games that happen in the Michigan/Ohio area? Any Irish or folk festivals while we're at it?
Cheers

Most of those I've never heard of. But how could I forget Alma?!! Been there lots of times. I don't go any more, though, since they built that football stadium. It spoiled the games for me. Plus, it's getting so commerical.
Yeah Paula, the reunion is near the Burgh in a way, Indiana County.
Keltic - you're the info man, aren't you? So, do you go to any of those festivals? Man I feel ignorant. One of them is right in my little old town and I didn't even know of it. Silly me!
Hope the fairgrounds are nice Todd. Maybe next year. How many do you play at a year?

We are only playing at 3 this year. I'm hoping to be able to expand in the next couple of years. This year is a kind of "testing the waters" phase. I'm hoping to do well at the ones we go to this year and really ramp up big for next year. If we wanted to we could be competing every weekend throughout the summer.
