My name is Allen Alderman, but my mother's maiden name is McKay! I want to learn more about the McKays, especially those in Virginia. Are there any here at CR? I know Bill (CarolinaScotsman) is a McKay, but we would like to know if there are others! Come on now! Speak up!

Allen, all the Virginia McKay's moved to Bethlehem, Pa. You should come there in Sept. and meet all of them.

LOL

Okay, ASE, I get the message! I'll try to see what I can do about coming but at this point in time I can't promise anything! Keep an A&W cold for me just in case, though!

Dear WiardofOwls,

When looking for McKay relatives in America, keep in mind that many names were changed into phonetic spellings here. The following are variations I've encountered:

McKay, Mc Kay, MacKay, Mac Kay, McKey, Mc Key, Mac Key, Mackey, Mackie, McKee, Mc Kee, Mackee, Mac Kee.

Don't forget to look in West Virginia as well. They used to be the same state until the Civil War. And, way back, they were part of the Carolina Territories purchased from France.

Well, hello there Anharyd! Welcome to CR! And thanks for the info! I was aware that there are other spellings of the name, but right now I am trying to build my local family tree, and haven't yet encountered any other spellings. Are you a McKay?
