The police chief of Phoeniz was just fired for falsifying crime statistics to get additional federal funds. It seems that the funds will have to be returned and the matter is being turned over to a grand jury.

Fascinating news. Thanks. One often wonders what kind of character lies behind those who so flagrantly and inappropriately shoot off their mouths...

Tonights print media indicated that he was demoted to a position with no administrative or police power pending the outcome of the grand jury and a new police chief would be "permanently appointed. I would guess that they are playing it safe till the grand jury rules. Then he can not sue the city. I also suspect he had help and others may face a grand jury too

Imagine the tourism that Phoenix and Az lost because of this. The federal money amounts to 2 million and the related losses certainly dwarf that amount.

My cousin lives in Scottsdale and because of the high crime rate and the alleged kidnappings he and his wife put their home up for sale.

It makes one wonder what some people are thinking. There was no way he could have gotten away with the scam for any length of time and he certainly knew that. He was reporting a rate second only to Bogota Columbia.

I am glad it is not so as that may be where I spend next winter.
