I mix up my own low-sugar hot cocoa mix, & I add a scoop of that to a large cup of coffee. Otherwise, it's just cream for me.

A nice treat I've discovered is adding one of Land 'o Lakes flavored cocoa mixes to my coffee. My favorites are the raspberry & Chocolate Supreme.

I find their music very engaging, but I am an unabashedly fanatical fan of Scottish folk, especially revival folk. biggrin.gif

I got to see the GB's for the first time at the Texas Scottish Festival (the first weekend every June). They are awesome! In fact, they were the headliners. The guys are fantastic, but I really love that Shelley!

They tried to blow in some cooler weather from Canada for us, but alas, twas not to be--it was just downright hot in that tent!

I have their Rhoots & Juice cds, & just love them. The GB's are very talented musicians & performers, & I really look forward to seeing them next time around.

Fair faw,

It was just over a year ago that I got interested in Scottish fiddling from listening to some of the wonderful music coming out of Scotland & Cape Breton. My then 11yo daughter was taking violin lessons, & I couldn't get the thought of learning to play out of my head. So, September a year ago, I started formal lessons myself, with the goal of becoming good at fiddling some day. My 7yo son started lessons last March.

It was some months before I learned that the violin/fiddle is one of the hardest instruments to play! wacko.gif But I have perservered. I am heartened by the progress I have made, & also by the knowledge that my children will someday be good at it.

Most people don't seem to understand that it takes years to get to just an intermediate level in violin/fiddle, & want us to play for them. I don't seem to have any ability to play from memory or from ear (which is important in fiddling, as the ornamentation can't be written into sheet music). My young teacher says all of that will improve with practice & time--which seem to be the two magical ingredients for playing violin. biggrin.gif

I would also like to learn mandolin, as the fingering is the same for both violin & mandolin. Tin whistle would be fun to learn, as well. I am 44yo, so I guess I better get to practicing!

I'll be cramming in as much as I can, since I can only be there on Saturday. crybaby.gif

When I need shade & rest, I'll be at the Gunn Clan Ceilidh tent!

Thanks for the welcomes!

I do have iTunes, & it seems to work fine on everything else. But I am techno-challenged, & will have to get my DH to work on getting me my music!

See everyone around the forums.

Hello all. This is my second post, the first being in the intros. So I am just jumping in at the top here.

I am a home schooling mom myself. From my own observations & from feedback from others, home schoolers as a whole are raising outstanding citizens who will contribute in many positive ways to society. Many have already graduated & are working & raising more of the same.

Having 15+ children obvously isn't for everyone. My DH & I had wanted 8, but I was unable to physically handle that many pregnancies. We had 5 children, & lost 2 of them in their teens.

Trust me on this one: each & everyone of those children is precious, & if any one of them does not have a strong work ethic & belief that it is normal to contribute to the welfare of one's family & society will definitely be the rare exception.

How's that for jumping into the thick of things?
