Our family has been listening to Celtic music now for a couple of years. We all love it! I would like to get your ideas on maybe five or so of what you would consider essential CD's or just some good stuff you could recommend. Some of the groups or singers our family likes are Altan, Old Blind Dogs, Cherish the Ladies, Niahm Parsons, and Teada.

You could recommend groups or specific albums. Thanks in advance!

Hi again!

Of course, everyone will have their own particular ideas about who or what is best, but my personal favorites include Capercaillie, Mary Jane Lamond, Dougie MacLean, Clannad, and Dèanta. You might also check into Solas and Gaelic Storm. A couple of Celtic Christian groups you might check into are Iona (there are several bands by this name, so you might have to look a little deeper) and Eden's Bridge. The 3 albums by Robin Mark are also very wonderful. On Sundays there is a Christian music hour here at CR. Not sure when it plays, but check the CR schedule for more information.

There is a whole treasure trove of good music out there to explore and discover. And be sure and put Celtic Radio to use in this endeavor! You can request up to 2 songs every hour! So request some songs or artists you think you might like and try them out!

Happy Hunting! And may God bless you and yours!

You might like to check out Men of Worth, Battlefield Band, Alasdair Fraser, and Golden Bough. I also like to liston to the small local bands we have in Southern California, such as Highland Way, Strange Woods, and Black Waterside. On a slightly more energetic style there is The Wicked Tinkers. (Though they should be seen to fully appreciated.)

Loreena McKennitt, Seven Nations, You've already found Altan smile.gif

I originally came to Celticradio.net with exactly that question. "Where can I find more of this wonderful Celtic music?"

I've never looked back. Tune in and see what you like and what you don't like. I'll warn you though. I wouldn't be surprised if your money starts turning into Celtic CDs wink.gif

Since they haven't been mentioned, I'll add Dervish and Planxty to the list. Planxty is no longer around but they did a reunion album not too long ago that is excellent. Dervish has been around a long time and they are outstanding. If you like fiddle music, try Natalie McMaster and nobody mentioned the Cheiftains so I'll add them too.

Planxty, yes. Wow, that takes me back a ways! smile.gif And for more of the older stuff, I'll say Silly Wizard and the Battlefield Band as well.

Loreena McKennitt, Kate Price, (Altan), Enya, Natalie MacMaster, Capercaillie, and maybe even the Riverdance soundtrack, as it has some lovely Celtic melodies as well.
