The Mixing Of The Norse And Scot/irish People

Hello,

I am new to this site. If this topic has already been throughly discussed, then please ignore this post.

I am an amatuer student of history. I have read that Dublin was founded by Norsemen as a trading post. It has occured to me that the Irish/Scottish population and the scandanavian people could have mixed at this point.

Those of us who have Nordic ancestry and Irish ancestry might be sharing the same ancestors if we were to go back some generations to that point.

Would anyone care to comment on this?

I'm new too so I honestly don't know if this has been discussed, but i think people of similar ancestry have similar ancestors up to a point. That is, if one goes back far enough. I'm Scottish and Irish among other things. If you care to investigate this farther it might be interesting to see what your research turns up. . .

ireland was not discovered by the norse, ireland and has been inhabited scotland have been inhabited for tens of thousands of years bc.

According to all ancient documents we all desended from 2 humans.

So it is only logical that no matter who says they were where, when..

We are all the same!

I would like to carry out this discussion more in the Philosophy and Science forum.

I myself am a staunch athiest. and have never belived that we came from adam and eve.

I don't think he was saying that the Norse discovered Dublin but that they established the port there.

In my research I've found that a lot of the Irish towns/cities were renamed by the Norse and yes the Norse and the Irish did interact and marry.

Some of the Norse would get stuck in Ireland by the winters and be unable to leave others fell in love or converted to another religion.

Just kidding. I have a suggestion -- there is an author of wonderful novels for young adults (but don't let that stop you-- they pull no punches) about the history of the British isles, named Rosemary Sutcliff, and she really did her homework. She writes terrific stories about this mixed heritage from all kinds of angles. You might really enjoy them. "Dawn Wind" was particularly good, and "Sword Song."
