High Mileage Cars

Just wondering how many of you out there have cars with high mileage and the car is still running. How many miles does your car have? Do you get a new car after you have racked up so many miles?

I used to buy US made cars and now have a Honda Civic.
2002 model with 103k miles. Still runs great and getting great gas mileage.

Both my T-bird and Grand Cherokee have 230K km. The Jeep runs great, but is falling apart, the T-bird is solid but not by any stretch of the imagination reliable.

Had about 135k on the Sunfire before the kid smashed it. A few electrical problems witrh those bloomin sensors but it ran.

Here is my current daily driver.

I bought it in march have put over 5000 miles on it this year and my major expenses have been 1 chain, 1 control cable,3 tires and about 6 inner tubes.

The fuel consumption is sometimes quite excessive up to 1700 calories per hour.

1991 White Grand Caravan. 302,000 miles. Replaced the engine at 110,000 miles. Probably replaced everything else except the body. Can excelerate and beat most new vans or suvs on the road today!

A 1991 GEO Metro 300,000 miles original engine, just replaced the brakes last year, still have the original clutch too.

Very little upkeep cost, just oil, tires and wiper blades and battery.

Looks like it has been through a war, I even use it off road LOL!

Got 55 - 60 mpg when new, still get about 50 -55 mpg now!

I guess this is also one of those questions... It´s not so rare that a diesel Mercedes is driven 1 300 000 or so kilometers with only basic maintenance in Finland Since we have to pay huge 120 % tax for a new car (50000 dollar car in USA costs 110000 dollars in Finland) we have to really use them until they rust away...

That tax rate sucks! I feel for you.

My current vehicle is nowhere near ready for a thread like this, but I have another year of payments on it, then I hope it'll last me at least another 5+ years. It's one of the more fuel efficent cars on the road, and I still spend upwards of $180-$200/mo on gas.

I had a 1991 Chrysler 5'th Ave. with 180k. I had maintained it religiously and it was like an old friend. Unfortunately, last December it gave it's existence to remove a really stupid deer from the gene pool. Though it's replacement has many more amenities, it is not nearly as comfortable.

78 Toyota Celica GT, my first brand new car: 252k

82 SR5 Toyota Pick-up, last new car we bought: 280k

86 Dodge Ram Van: 482k, bought with 30k on it

a couple of 92 Olds Cutlass Sierras, company cars, bought off lease at 12k, 300k each.

95 GMC Safari, 240K , boought used at about 10k,sold it to my neighbor, he drove it another 15k, tranny died.

2000 GMC Safari, bought used at 13k, current daily driver, 191k. youngest son just tore out the oil pan on a boulder, dirt road, fishing, drove it 300 yds and parked it. My oldest son replaced the oil pan, did 2 flushes of oil and I'm back on the road again, engine never missed a beat, in fact it runs better, had'nt done an oil change in 15k.

I was a regional service manager and my territory went from Washington DC to Fort Kent, ME. It was common for me to drive to NYC from Hartford, CT in the morning and then drive to Boston in the afternoon and back to Hartford in the evening. A typical weekly route would be Hartford to Providence, Boston, Portsmouth, NH, Portland ,Me, Augusta, Eastport, to Presque Isle on to Fort Kent, across Canada, to Plattsburgh, NY, down to Albany, or over to Brattleboro, VT, to Pittsfield, MA or Greenfield to Springfield, back to Hartford. This was a common north route one week, then the next week I would do NJ, PA, DE, MD, back into NYC, LI and ferry home to CT.
Those were the days!!

'86 chevy g30 1-ton cargo van with just over 360k miles on it.
I bought it used eleven years ago for pennies from a co-worker who was moving cross country. At this point, the body is more rust than metal, but I won't get rid of it. It hasn't let me down yet, every time I turn the key the damn thing starts up, So it's turned into a test of endurance. A fill of the fuel tank costs me over $150 these days, and with single-digit mileage that hurts... but I want to see how much longer this thing will keep running.
Plus it comes in handy when you need to move or tow stuff.
For those keeping track, these were the last carbuerated american-made vehicles.

Our Saturn rolled over 100k last night. Goodbye factory warranty.

1996 Olds Ciera station wagon with 186,000+. Last one on the dealer lot when GM stopped making them. Excellent condition. Irreplaceable, as there are no comparable station wagons being built today. Around 30 mpg, which I consider decent for such a versatile vehicle.

2003 Hyundai Sonata with 93,000+ miles. Looks and runs like new. Also around 30 mpg.

Nothing like regular maintenance to keep good vehicles going.
